Blackpool v Lincoln City Official Matchnight Thread 01.10.24

A few thoughts:

Busy schedule - Saturday/Tuesday twice in a row.

Difficult game, glad we’re at home. We’ve been great to watch recently and momentum can be huge in football.

We need to give our regular starters (who have been fantastic), a bit of recovery time.

Is our bench a bit ‘weak’?

Beat these and it makes a further statement ahead of Mansfield, who also surround our promising and current League position.

Who would you start

UTMP!

Difficult call Graves, we definitely lose momentum following our substitutions. Overall we have quite a young team with plenty of adrenaline following 4 wins on the bounce. Lee Evans is the worry & seemingly always near his next injury. Can't rest him though, especially with no Norburn. So barring any injuries same as for me other than Fletcher or even Beesley for Rhodes.

I'd be tempted to bring Bees in as he is more mobile than Rhodes or Fletcher. Suspect though it will be same starting XI if there are no injury concerns.

Husband is another one to think about, who had done nothing wrong this season really - but Coulson has come in and played amazingly well, so can you really bring Husband back in? But on the flip side, can you keep the club captain on the bench for an extended period? A nice problem for Bruce to have and one i'm sure he will solve!

Yep, is the simple answer. 🙂

Coulson would probably have to move into wide midfield if either Apter or CJ are out so Hubby would come back in then.

When a team has found its groove like ours has at the moment, it would be unwise to change much at all. The back 4 and Tyrer are coming off the back of 2 clean sheets and will feel on top of the world. The middle 4 is trickier as we have worries over the fitness of Evans and Morgan, but with Norburn out they have to play if available. Rhodes would be the one to come out for me.

I would keep it the same (barring injuries) but play Carey or Embleton in behind Joseph to link midfield with final third. Ballard’s role has been really key and I don’t think fletcher , Rhodes or beesley can play that. If needed we can always bring on one of them to partner Joseph. I’d like to see Carey in that Ballard role tomorrow

I'm as big a Jimmy Husband fan as you'll find but I can't justify dropping Coulson for him at the mo. Coulson brings us a lot more going forward and hasn't let us down going the other way.

It's a squad game. We probably won't need all four left backs (cheers Critchley) but Jimmy will be needed.

Some fainthearts on here. but we are in form and almost all players are available so 5/6 takes in the bookies profit margin making the true odds about 10/11 which seems about right as the average number of home wins works out at about 50% ie odds of 1/1 so we are rated at just a bit better than that in this game which seems about right to me.

The way Evans plays, he’s at risk every match!
He’s no shrinking violet. It’s his way and we’ll all have to pray more.

Agree with that but thought I'd need a tin hat, emb.and Carey nearer match to Ballard

Nah not faint heart. Given Lincoln’s away form just surprised. Was expecting 6/5 in all honesty. Win tomorrow and I’ll be getting even more giddy. Winning 5 on the bounce is hard in any league

I’d also like to see if Bees starting over Fletcher or Rhodes is a solution.

Even last year, he seemed to be a player many didn’t want on the pitch but pulled us out of some tight spots with important goals.

Good points. Coulson brings us pace and direct play- love his forward thinking.

Husband however, is there if we need leadership and since Keogh then Bruce has even popped up with goals.

We’re more than covered at LB it’s the other striker and over reliance on Evans I worry about.

Carey? in Ballards place. Carey can't tackle, chase or run but is brilliant at passing backwards. Also at present a great pointer at where the ball should go. Maybe Mr Bruce s magic could work on him
In the meantime Beesley, Fletcher are reasonable choices. Rhodes just needs a goal and I,m sure we all are shouting for him

I was soo looking forward to tomorrow but I’ve Covid for the second time in 3 weeks (yup that’s right) and 7th time overall and I’m rough. I know I know we should stop testing but my mum is very vulnerable and I just couldn’t live with myself if…you know.

It's not so long since an away win had us reaching for the champagne. We're on the up, no matter what happens tonight. But, as others have said, we can go to games now with a positive outlook.

There is a player in there somewhere. Critchley couldn’t find it, but then he played CJ as a wing back and left Apter on the bench so…

I'd be starting Bees tonight for his work rate off the ball and ability to chip in with a goal. I'll just look away when he gets the ball outside the box.

Will be a difficult game against a team who look to be in good form, albeit only 1 win in the last 3, and who are obviously pretty good away from home.

I’m just wary that very few teams win 5 league games in row added to our, until last Tuesday, our rather ordinary midweek record.

And not to mention the relentless schedule atm playing every Saturday and Tuesday

Should be a good game, they are without Ben House who picked up a knock at the weekend. No doubt they'll stick to their preferred 3-5-2 formation, which will hopefully mean Apter and CJ can exploit the space on the wings. It'll be a tough fixture though, they have been doing well for a while, so it's a great test.

Got to tighten up at the back,Burton missed 3 or 4 excellent chances that an in form team would put away,we are taking our chances more often.all adds up to an exciting game tonight, wish Ballard was fit would be mote confident hope for a narrow win

You are right, great game on Saturday and we played well but they were good also and should have scored a couple.

Coulson has pace which Husband is definitely lacking nowadays

I'd keep Rhodes in, confidence comes by game time and fitness will come with minutes.
3 games in a week might be too much of an ask and I'd rather him play at MT where chances that come our way will need to be taken. He's the most likely to do so.

SB will select the best team though.

Not that I have any badges & believe in whatever the Team Bruce decide (unlike the previous coach) but if we want to proceed with the pacey high press....
Tyrer
Gabriel Offiah Casey Husband (if fit)
Morgan Evans Coulson
Apter Joseph Hamilton
4-3-3 and a young mobile lineup.

I’d play the same team if all fit. Perhaps Bees in if two games in three days is too much for Rhodes.

These don’t concede many so I’m expecting a tight affair.
