Blackpool v Middlesbrough Official Matchnight Thread 08.11.22

OK, I've skimmed a lot of this thread but the way I see it:
We were far too slow to the ball.
We showed little fight.
We showed little initiative - same old punts forward.
We were schooled by a far better team.
We have gone backwards very quickly.
We look like a relegation team.

I left at the 3rd goal. I was very angry. I shouted to Appleton that he should go away...I used different words.

I can’t for one minute think that anyone else would get anything different from this current group of players…..league 1 at best. We are not good enough….simple as that

Injuries, suspensions or illness aside, there seems to be no system when a Blackpool team.takes the field. This must be the manager's fault; either that or the players aren't capable of following orders. Appleton has had plenty of time to assert his philosophy but it's just the same old same old hoofball.
Reasonable comments. The times we've played well seems to have come from the players taking the game by their own initiative rather than any tactical plan.

I’m not judging Appleton one way or another, but the build up play that led to the penalty was not his fault…just crap decision making by the players. Appleton also doesn’t tell the players to pass to the opposition.

I can agree with that to some extent, but wardy was off the pace from the first whistle, we were exposed down both flanks, fundamentally disorganised, we didn't look like we had a single clue what we were doing. I would say this season so far we have been battered for more than 2/3 of the time we have been playing. Last season apart from maybe three games we never looked out of place.

I think Appleton's strategy coming into the club was to play 4-3-3 and use quality young loans from the premier league
to provide the ability that was missing in the previous seasons to play this system. Unfortunately with the exception of
Patino the loans have just not been good enough. The recent signings of previous Appleton players in Wright and Bridcut either haven't been
good enough or fit enough either. But the frustrating thing to me tonight was that it was clear that 4-3-3 wasn't working and that Madine was isolated yet we didn't change formation to 4-4-2. It is obvious that having Madine as a lone striker doesn't work, yet Appleton keeps doing it.

The build up play was too slow and hesitant that always allowed them to get back in position and what was going on with them corner s in the first half

Pros
I found a tenner yesterday so I didn't feel as fleeced as the other walk ups who get slapped for 30 now
I thought Dom Thompson kept going best he could to stop it getting really messy. Obviously doesn't deserve a carriage clock or a bottle of whisky for it or anything but at least he kept his head up for us
Boro eventually eased off a bit as the likes of Matt Crooks could have eaten our lot alive if they'd have wanted to

Cons
Everything else. It looked like Derren Brown had been in our changing room before the game and convinced all the players that the ball was actually a land mine

Coventry must have had a new variant of Covid that makes you forget everything you've ever done on a football pitch and passed it on

Well we got a f stuffing there didnt we. This break after Saturday will be good for us,the players need it.

Is Appleton secretly punishing us for the Lincoln result? His tactics are non existent and the team are certainly not playing for him..

Sleepwalking into league 1

It didn't though did it? He got 3 months and will not have had a big pay off. If he had been promised the funds and players he wanted with us he wouldn't have fucked off, not that I wanted him to stay. For me the blame lies with Sadler and Mansford.
Pete . Decent contract with Villa & therefore big pay-off will see him right for a few years at least . I think you're kidding yourself if you think he'd turn down the opportunity to work in the prem for big money . Saddler & co are doing what they can within a budget . A smaller budget than would be available due to total lack of infrastructure investment by previous owners which is rightly being addressed .

Only positive I can take from that is we only lost 3 nil.
11 players not arsed on show tonight.
A statue of a manager on the touch line who is demonstrating he is tactically clueless & has zero motivational skills.
Can someone please explain why we didn’t play a “specialist “ full back at right back ? yes left footers playing there but their positional awareness would have been there ? Tonight Ward wandered into midfield & the joint top scorer in the league drops in to play right back.

Maxwell , oh dear oh dear. That should be your last game for us.

A few boos there at the end first time I’ve head that this season
Considering how few were left, it was a solid boo. Completely deserved, regardless of injuries or whatever. Totally lacking anything that a fan wants to see, win or lose. There have been a few seasons where I’ve seen that sort of a performance in different eras and they don’t end well unless major changes happen (and that doesn’t include bringing back a solitary ex player).

The words negative and fickle, are springing to mind tonight. So, a half crocked, sickness-laden Pool lost tonight. So what? It happens. It’s happened to other teams, who are now springing to life and starting to win. Let’s get into and over the World Cup break, then see where we’re going. Too many on here, are quick to judge, label and annihilate. If we’re still in a mess at the end of Feb, I’ll bow to your ongoing negativeness. MA, after all, has had a very difficult hand to play, these past few games. If you haven’t been able to see that, you’ve been wandering this World blinkered.

If things were as he wanted here I don't think he would have gone.
I've read some garbage tonight but that takes the biscuit. Critchley had already been sounded out and was going before the last two games of last season. He was offered 3x his salary to go and work in the Premier League. For him it was a no brainer and when he got the call was on his way so quickly he couldn't even stop to thank the fans for their support.

Yeah, you’re right he’s a snakey **

So the training facilities had nothing to do with it. People keep saying on here we don't sign players because of the training facilities, it's all about wages.

Didn't mansford say on Ttv we have a bigger budget

I can't believe last night's performance. It took me right back to a 4-0 hammering at Southend, donkeys-years ago, which was the worst Pool match I ever watched, and never thought I'd see anything as bad again. I thought that Middlesbrough should have been at least 3-0 up at halftime. They had missed 3 or 4 sitters in the first half. The only passes we put together were at the back and even then, they ended with a rushed hoof upfield. The penalty was another result of poor passing and from where I was sat in Block J, a pen looked the right decision. It was embarrassingly easy for them to pass the ball around us and had they gone for the jugular from the start, could easily have run up double figures. My lift home said that he has never left a match before the end but on 75 minutes, said that we would be leaving on 85 minutes, or earlier if it went 4-0. The only good things about leaving early were that we missed the torture of OLE, OLE, OLE, at every pass, and there was very little traffic on the road coming home. I am dreading the thought of us being adrift in the bottom three after Christmas because who, in their right mind, would want to sign for any team in January at the foot end of the table, to take part in a relegation battle.
