Blackpool v MK Dons Official Matchday Thread 24.10.20

As a club’s U-18 and U-23 coach, you don’t buy or bring players in, basically you take the best of the lower age groups that filter up through the club’s academy teams. Just a thought.

I have not been watching as I haven’t got a good enough signal for streaming where I am today, but it sounds awful.
Looking at the team sheet it seemed madness to start Kaikai after he hasn’t played for ages. Far more likely to be effective off the bench.
The midfield looked weak on paper and so it has proved-less than thirty per cent possession at home. I appreciate Robson might not have had a full game in him, but surely he needs to come on now?
If Neil Critchley wants to save his job (maybe he doesn’t?) he needs to make big changes ASAP I think.

Missed the first 11 minutes, but it's looking like the same old story isn't it?

  • Good high press, managing to win the ball back but not enough quality in the final third to punish the opposition
  • Too many cheap free-kicks conceded, inviting balls into our box
  • Ref can't wait to award them free-kicks, so they started early doors throwing themselves to the floor whenever they could
  • Can we have a winger who can cross a ball to a tangerine shirt please - on 1 occasion Yates was on his own FFS
  • No shots on target (I think)
  • Didn't see any shots from us in open lay
  • Disjointed and uninterested
  • Get it to CJ the main (if not only) tactic

Poor half, ref won’t let any balls be contested - that must be a record for how many times he’s blown his whistle!

Our delivery is weak and has been all season. No threat from set pieces ever!
Confidence is shot to shit, time for some leaders to step up or this little head coach project is heading for the scrap heap!

Hamilton isn't right. Should have been off on about 28 minutes. Why leave him on. Why bother with naming subs? Unless Critchley is worried that others aren't going to make the 90 either?

Positives
Woodburn looks like a decent player
Couple of decent touches from Kai Kai
Williams okay again
Ballard and Ekpiketa look fairly solid

Negatives
Lack of confidence very clear
Maxwell has no presence
Turton gives away needless free kicks
CJ looking either injured or not interested
Yates won't score

We need some leaders out there. Who is running the show for us? Williams the only one who is close.
Hope that Critchley is kicking some arses, shame on them

Yates is a good signing if you’re playing high press. The problem is neither wide player help him hence he is useless. Williams has upset the ref. Every time he makes a tackle the ref gives a foul. Frustrating. Not convinced with the Liverpool lad yet. You’d expect an element of class.. give him a few games

There's players there. They're just devoid of confidence and the plan isn't clear. You could swap lots round and get a team out of that lot. Yes, we're probably a striker short, but there's a half decent player in the rest.

It's joyless. That's the problem. I'd describe that as joyless football. Safety first against a shit team.
Nailed it there with the safety first comment. Williams almost playing like a 3rd centre back, doesn’t want the ball to play forward, only there to fill a space and maybe break up play.

To me Yates would do better playing off a big man in a classic two up front situation. He’s never going to make an impact in a different set up as he isn’t making it happen. He could anticipate balls off a big man.

Wonder if the players will have a meeting & sort out a better system & see improvements. It’s happened before & with us.

Which means 4-4-2 with Madine?
Maybe it’s time we brought Nuttall back?

I think that tomorrow there'll be more calls for Critchleys' head.
And on that display I agree with them.
2nd half started no better!!!
We’re shi. .... very poor .
It’s all well and good having young players but we need a blend.

critch must be very worried indeed

probably not as much as us on here though

It’s obvious what we need 2 or 3 very experienced players in mid 30,s or early 30,s like we use to have all the time players like Grayson , Micheal Jackson I think . Players who’ve been round the block but can motivate the players on the pitch and tell them what to do where to go, it seems to me critchly doesn’t want any experience to undermined him. Or step up in front of him.

Theres simply no care with the final ball. We keep it just going sideways but as soon as we need to put a pass in danger areas it's the wrong angle and/or weight.
