Blackpool v Stevenage Official Matchday Thread 14.10.23

Dale was excellent as was Dougall. Hubby and CJ are just consistently good week in week out and Kouassi and Rhodes just works. Casey was again, imperious, what a revelation he has been this season. A nice comfortable win against a side who will end up bottom half of the table by the end of the season. Proper test next Saturday.
Occasionally I think you actually know something about football. 😂

Dougall is a much better player with Norry behind him, however he does pass back too much (probably on the possession instruction)?

Chalk and cheese from last season.

CJ only ever seems to have a good game everytime he pulls a Pool shirt on!!!! He needs to be more consistent.*

Also haven't seen much slagging off of the ref or lino. Would that be because they disallowed what was apparently an onside goal? And at 1-1 things might not have been as good second half.

It would be nice if people remembered things like this when next slagging a ref off. You win some, you lose some of those decisions. It's In The Game.

That's true but he was more positive today and he was my MOM.
I'm not getting on the the Carey "weakest link" bandwagon, because he was part of a winning squad, but he does pass the ball backwards more than King Kenny.
KK is far better playing higher up the pitch and I'd like to see that Dougall, Norburn, Virtue combo again. You can't beat the experience the 3 playing together bring even though they might on paper look a bit dull.
PS.
I thought Pennington had his best BFC performance to date.

Like f@ck you did.

There is no chance on earth you said that positive view to your son when you keep describing this team and squad as at best average. Manager incompetent and lucky to stay up.

Well I said we should be beating teams like Stevenage 4-0 but followed it up by saying our team sometimes plays towards the wrong goal so it might not be that easy.

Pennington was immense today, he was given the job of man marking their no.5 at set pieces and he did a great a job on him!

Just realised posted my review in the wrong thread.

My thoughts:

Not going to get over excited as they were a poor outfit and we did rely on some luck. The first half was lacking any sort of quality and we couldn't really build any momentum. Fortunate to go in at half time leading.

The second half was much better. Total control really and CJ's goal was sublime. It was pleasing how well Dougall and Norburn controlled the game. Them two should have been starting from the off. The challenge is who plays in front. Carey doesn't do enough for me but I'm not losing hope as he does have some good attributes.

CJ and Dale, enough has been said about them. It was fitting Dale got man of the match. The sponsors did right giving it him. The three centre halves were very good and special mention for Pennington who put his body on the line when required.

Rhodes is a striker who will never get praised for general play but that doesn't matter whilst he scores goals and his record speaks for himself. Thought Kouassi looked off the pace but I can see why we are better team with him in it. I am not sure we can rely on him week in week out based on what I saw but I'm sure he will get better. Thought Lavery looked sharper than normal when he came on.

Overall, job done. Atmosphere was flat as usual in the first half but the North had a right go in the second half. Shame it's not the same noise levels as previous seasons but apart from the North, no one seems interested. Also wasn't expecting smoke bombs and missile throwing at home to Stevenage.

Was at the valley last week and thought that was a turning point. Was not there yesterday. Charlton in patches are a really good team but it was only a moment of madness, which led to a moment of brilliance, that stopped us from waking away with all 3 points. In the end it was a good point in context of the game. I think we will look back on that as a big point, and we are not even yet fulfilling our potential as a team. Will be at Oxford and am optimistic that we will challenge this season. Confidence seems to be flowing back into certain players and we have a natural goal scorer.

Agreed, our best midfield three. It is typical of our luck, Virtue doing very well and then misses how many games because of the dreaded hamstring injury?
