Blackpool: why restaurants are starting a new vibrant scene

This is why I dont get some knocking the town centre, it's been improving with new shop fronts for the run down shops, new independent eateries opening up and a bit of 'manchester quarter vibe'. It's set for far more improvements too.

There's some fantastic places.

There's also a Taco bell, which is another nice option, due to open not far from BFC, near the Odeon, the old steals shop, already knocked down.

It's good to see.

Wondered what they were doing with the Steals site🤔. Obviously Taco Bell are setting themselves up for the future as part of the Revoe redevelopment programme 👍

Blackpool: why restaurants are starting a new vibrant scene, making the resort a must for nights out

There’s a buzz about Blackpool, and that up and coming vibe is drawing foodies in from all over the North West and beyond.

Love your food and a great night out?

Love your food and a great night out?
It’s not just diners and fun lovers who are feeling the love for the seaside resort classic, but up and coming entrepreneurs like Jake Whittington who loves the new Manchester Quarter vibe so much he has setup a number of businesses in the town.
He looked beyond the candyfloss and kiss-me-quick hat reputation to see the potential Blackpool has for a vibrant food and drink scene by the sea.
Jake, moved from Brighton to Preston in 2014, then opened Dirty Blondes in Blackpool, having found the perfect, unsung location. He said: “I’m not a born local, and I’d be the first to admit I was somewhat hesitant to open a venue in Blackpool. I moved from Brighton to Preston in 2015 and only had a few trips to Blackpool before the opening of Dirty Blondes, never seeing past the harsh exterior and my outlook of the town purely based on reputation.

Blackpool is on the way up

“Originally, the plan was to open in Preston, however, my business partner owned a building down a back alley, which had been vacant for years and wanted to show me before we committed anywhere else. Funnily enough, I’d walked past the Back Church Street building before, thinking to myself “who would open a venue down a back alley, in the middle of Blackpool?” As it turns out, me!”
What happened next was engagement with the local community and Blackpool Bid, to see the potential for his business in the town. He added: “After falling in love with the building and seeing how the brand will sit within the town, I was sold.
“In our first few months I started to see the real side of the town that isn’t seen on the prom. There’s a rumbling of talented creatives, gritty entrepreneurs, a hypnotising sense of community and quite possibly, the best underdog story you can imagine.”
And Dirty Blondes is not the only success story adding to the upbeat vibe drawing all ages and demographics in, places like The Wok Inn, Upside Down, Stefani’s, The Bank Bar & Grill, Mamma’s Ristorante, and Twisted Indian, award winning and forward-thinking businesses who have a relentless passion for their product, are adding to the mix. Jake has added Common Bar & Kitchen, Nook and Neighbourhood Subs to his own business empire, with more excitement to come.

Jake added: “The sense of community flows through more than just hospitality, having the opportunity to work people like Stuart from Counselling in the Community, Neil from Blackpool Food Bank and the Blackpool BID reinforces my belief that Blackpool is on the edge of something special.”

Yep, be a nice addition.

I'd like too see a chiquitos somewhere too, isn't one now anywhere near and what better place would easily thrive with locals and tourists.

A few other things...

Bowling alley needs drastic improvement, although the Odeon is said to become a new one plus other activities.

Thats good but it's also good to have more cinema chain options, as they do cheap deals, the one in town will cost to park, but a welcome addition, but there's still room for other chains, other towns etc have multiple.

Revoe redevelopment should bring many more improvements, looks to be shops etc in the plans.

Blackpool central is a big improvement and adds a lot more.

Moving civil servants into town, along with the multiversity and students, big footfall increase, will only help support and grow the independent eateries, shops etc.

Investment zones at the airport and mooted for the town centre area to revoe area can only help.

Further improvements with the green and blue infrastructure, aka greening up the town through easy and more costly ways.

Town is more difficult as there not many verges, however large planters with the palm tree lookalikes like seen near BFC are tough and look great, should be doable and has been elsewhere.

There's a lot of improvements and a lot more to come. 👍

I couldnt believe how busy Blackpool promenade was today, for this time of year.

I travellled from Queens Promenade to Chapel St and most of the hotel car parks looked full and lots of people on the promenade.

Never known it to be busy like that, for mid-november before.

Abingdon Street Market? Thought it was meant to be street food and council spent a packet on it.

Great to see so much taking shape and see our town on the way up slowly but surely 👍

Turtle Bay also coming to the old che bar in Talbot Square, new department store also for houndshill as we all know. Probably more I've forgot or don't know about.

They should give that Star Flyer ride on the tower headland a long lease.

It looks great and gets much more attention from the public than the comedy carpet ever did.

Will be another addition.

That‘s got to be a big improvement on the old market. if they can get some street food type stalls in there and get a modern more cultured vibe going on that would be a winner.
Let’s face it, most any of us have done in Abingdon Street market for years is use it as a short cut through to the other side or ignore it completely.

Definitely getting busier, season seems to be remaining longer too - on weekends at least. This Christmas by the Sea is massive for Saturday/Sunday tourist numbers. Also, town having more restauraunts good quality etc. things are improving despite what many people say

No reason not to have a decent cafe, a few small food outlets, that with the redurb should encourage more footfall, also good for when its raining for a place to eat indoors.

Yep there's loads...

Loads of Italians, Indians, common which is tacos, burrito etc, taco bell coming, could do with a chiquitos, american, Chinese, Turtle bay coming, things like vintro lounge, neighbourhood subs, dirty blondes, decent cafes etc, plus all you can eat places like mr basrais, the gurka decent too but been a few times.

There's probably 30+ places I want to go and try or go back to in and around town alone, plus more in th town itself.

You lost me when you said Chiquitos. Don’t think I’ve been in one of them since 2004.
Always been nice when I've been in, the more options the better. Heres probably a load more places big cities have that could thrive too.

Was speaking to someone from Enterprise Council on friday, who told me that the Chinese property investors/speculators are starting to show a serious interest in Blackpool.

If going for a birthday meal where would you recommend? beach house bar and bistro any good or overrated?
Depends what you want, Indian there's twisted Indian Street food, Common does south American food, haven't tried these by just on my list and highly rated.

La fontana, amaro, sapori, Italio, ciao ciao some good Italians, but not all in town centre.
