Blackpools a shit hole

Well done for the award - Stanley Park.
I don’t want to be too negative but it was much better in the 50’s and 60’s when I was a lad.

The lake was a lot tidier especially around the boating areas. There was the Samuel Fletcher lifeboat which carried passengers round the lake, rowing boats, motor boats and duck boats. There were no cordoned off areas on the lake like there are now.

There used to be a working floral clock and carpet beds full of flowers. The Cocker Clock was always working and for 3d you could climb to the top. The fountains from the lions at the clock also worked. There were fully operational tennis courts and a cafe in the tennis pavilion.

There were conservatories open to the public.

There was no riding your bikes in the park. The “Parkie” would blow his whistle and tell you to get off. Mind you, that was fun trying not to get caught!

Its a fantastic park.

Its a great achievement, when BCPD looked after it in the 70's 80's it was just as good if not better. Played Blackpool Park GC few weeks ago, although lots could be done, another positive for the park.

Ah, nostalgia isn't what it used to be 😉

I went on Friday and it clearly needs a lot spending on it as it is a little shabby in places...the lake is a disgrace in both halves (the bird sanctuary side is considerably worse and is frankly in an unacceptable condition)and needs addressing ASAP...the amount of money that has been wasted on transport infrastructure is obscene and some funding is required for a true treasure of Blackpool

Is it? The East Park Dr area between the model village and the bridge is a sanctuary so they don't really touch it and only a few hundred yards if that, beyond the bridge going North it's a well kept path through the woods, take the dog through it regularly.

I’m talking the about the lake between the bridge and the golf course…the algae is really bad …the area you quote is ok but there are no boats anymore …no trampolines…the crazy golf needs a makeover… the putting greens are not up to par…there is shite everywhere which is not being cleaned

There’s still definite room for improvement, however the park is fantastic and still a credit to the town. Regards to the shit everywhere the friends of the park do their best to keep it cleaned up. Problem is unless parents stop dragging up their kids then sadly the shit, graffiti and vandalism will continue.

Was in the Pool last week and had a walk through, what happened to the rowing boats, used to love them, the lake is covered in some sort of algae, the motors boats ( I did not see one) are 15 quids for 15 minutes!! The cafe was rocking and the park was busy, a band was warming up in the bandstand area and it was lovely to be about!

Used to have our school sports day at the track and cross country around the perimeter. Seemed awfully big at the time.

They need to enforce dogs off leads more, especially around the lake, some are just out of control and the owners don't care.

They were costing too much to maintain and heat. The Council turned off the heaters one winter to see what would happen and everything in there died so they flattened them.

Spent lots of time there i n my young days.
The grand father of my best pal (Norman Parker) was one of the Rangers there so we had to behave.
Loved it in those days, however, can't remember the last time I went there.
When at Palatine school the whole year had to race round the park about once a month
'Our Gang' was always good. Barry Martland always 1st, Norman 2nd or 3rd and me about 5/7.
Sadly Norman died a good few years ago. Barry and family went to Canada not long after.
I'm still in touch with him and his sister Carole.
