Bobby Ball’s Statue. Yes or No?

This may have been mentioned on here, if so I apologise for the duplication

Just wondering why Lowther Gardens is the chosen site. I believe he moved over to the Fylde coast but was born and bred in Oldham.

Also, who funds all these statues? I know there has been some fund raising going on but I reckon a statue standing 7’ tall would cost quite a bit of money.

I thought Bobby was a comic genius but where does the commemorative statues end? If it ever will.

Will they make a statue of Tommy Cannon when he passes on and put it next to Bobby; after all they were a double act.

It's a difficult one. We all have our own heroes. But we don't all agree on who they are.

When it comes to this kid of thing I have a rule... if they're controversy free then I've no objections. Someone (or multiple people), wants to pay for a statue of them then fair game.

On a positive note and despite the fact I didn't really get his/ their comedic vibe... I can imagine some people might seethis statue and contemplate/ appreciate him. Some might even remember some of his comedy seeing his face and raise a chuckle. That's no bad thing imo.

Why not?

He was a famous entertainer and resident on the Fylde coast so is as deserving as any. Somewhere drab like St Annes could do with a bit of cheering up!

He was an adopted Lytham St. Anne’s lad just like Les Dawson. I’ve no problem with them.

I was never a big fan of their comedy as I felt there were no others that could compare with Morecambe and Wise.

I wondered too about Tommy Cannon. I suppose when the times comes it depends where his family feels his home was.

There is no Ernie Wise statue in Morecambe.

Theres an Ernie Wise statue in Morley where he was born. Theres no Eric Morecambe statue though.

Why don’t we go the full hog and have a statue of every comedian/entertainer that performed & lived in the area.
Freddie Davis (Parrot face)
Frank Carson
Charlie Carroli
Ena Sharples
The Nolans
Keith Harris (Orville)
The list is endless.

None of them were actually born here but all lived in and around the area so where do you draw the line of statues?

Firstly, I loved his comedy as an individual and as a double act. I like slapstick and they are part of a long line of funny acts.

If we can have a comedy carpet, why not flank it with statues of all those with the phrases (I know, it might not be practical)? They are there for a reason and it's because they are part of our culture - a much loved part.

It’s got to be Charlie Caroli, he brought a lot of money to our town🤡👍

I'll happily draw the line when no one is willing to pay for a statue of them. If people want to pay for a statue of someone... why stop them?

Imo is different if tax payers money is involved. At that point there should be a vote

You forgot Lennie Bennett. 😁

It’s what he’s done outside of showbiz, in the community that has endeared him to so many. He was a people person who always made time for people. Every year, for many consecutive years he helped out serving and waiting on at The Sally Army Raikes Parade on Christmas Day morning, providing Xmas Day breakfast to the homeless. He would turn up with 25 pairs of gloves, hats, scarves etc, which he bought from Millets to give as pressies to the homeless. This is one of many, many examples of his kindness.

Bobby held Blackpool very close to his heart. A down to earth working man who made good.
He also made a lot of people very happy, not only with his act but his his relentless charity work.
He was a patron of blue skys a cancer charity and he donated plenty of his own wealth into the lowther pavilion.

He once said that if you give with a kind and happy heart you will also receive.

Catch anything recent?
Still no Codling coming up just some decent sized Whiting and plenty of flatties yesterday.
Lad from the Wyre club had 13 keepers today ranging from 3-5lb and a big Thornie.

Another lad I know had 2 from the point last night fishing low water off the beach at 5 and 6lb.

I was last out 2 weeks ago but just had 2 about 2 and 2.5lb and some good Whiting.

If it's the same sculptor as the Les Dawson, then don't bother , what a waste of money, looks nowt like him, refund due on that one 😀

Blue Skies is the Vic charity.

I just hope it's not the same guy who's done these statues in Lowther and dotted around Cypress Point.....

Also wonder if anything happens to David Moyes will he get a statue in Lowther because he walks his dogs in there......🤔

That's one more than Bobby Ball, where's his statue ?

Bernard Manning had Frank Carson round to his house and they were being interviewed the interviewer said what would you like as your epitaph on your gravestone .
Frank said “ It’s been a cracker “
Bernard sat there in his vest and y fronts said
“ I‘d have , I would rather be here than having lunch with Frank Carson “
