Body blow for Nazanin

Remind me which foreign secretary said she was a spy to an Iranian official? Once again, trying desperately to tell everyone what they want to hear.

If you are referring to Boris. you're wrong. But it's Boris so it doesn't matter as there must be elections coming up!!!

As reported by the BBC, PM states to “redouble our efforts to get her free”.

Boris what is two times of fuck all?

I think she was warned not to return to the country or she would be arrested for espionage...she chose to ignore that directive and that was a pretty daft decision...nobody deserves the treatment she has been subjected to and she is now a political pawn but to some extent she is the author of her own misfortune

It’s time Iran was put in its place, jailing an innocent woman in the first place was an insult to jail her for another year is just scandalous and something needs to be done.
I often wonder had she been married to an American and was an American citizen how they would react to all this.
Seriously we should grow some balls we need to go in to the Iranian embassy arrest the Ambassador throw him in jail for a month without food then discuss terms for an exchange when they come grovelling.

You've not heard of diplomatic immunity then?

Where is that information from?

Boris said she'd been training dissident journalists while her defence was based on being on holiday. As always, he apologised for the gaffe. Too late, 5 years in jail. Its all in the public domain.
I don't remember seeing the word dissident Phil. I'm sure the Guardian said training journalists, but I'll check again.

Training journalists was seen by the Iranians as fomenting dissent. They weren't getting jobs with the official mouthpieces, and regardless, she always said she was on holiday and had nothing to do with training anybody.

Her defence was completely based on that and he cut the legs out from under her defence team. The powers that be leapt on that statement and incarcerated her.

So , he didn't say it then. They took it to mean that. Putting words into his mouth like lots of others do. I rest my case.

I’ve been following this from the start, joining Richard’s mailing list early doors, and I’ve not heard of this, though maybe I missed it.

I’m with 1966, sort out this debt we have with them to get her back, if we owe them money it should be payed back anyway, then cease any dealings with them permanently.
You’ve got to feel for the average Iranian, they’ve suffered this kind of shit from at least the ‘60’s, either from the Shah, then from the religious nuts that managed to oust him.

Sorry to go on, but one more point - when a country discovers a spy in their midst, they might imprison them, but on release they evict them from their country. Why would any country insist on them staying an extra year?
The whole world should be up in arms for Naz’s release, not just the UK.

Of course I’ve heard of it that’s why I said just go to the embassy and arrest him.

What do you think the response would be then?

Iran needs to be taken down a peg or two the Israelis certainly know how to deal with them.

Diplomatic immunity is an agreement by states that want to work together. Iran have reneged on that arrangement.
I’d not rock the boat til Naz is back, but then I’d round up any Iranian diplomats and kick the shit out of them all the way back to the airport.

She used an Iranian passport to enter Iran. Iran doesn’t recognise dual nationality. Why would they evict an Iranian national.

How do we know that she is innocent

As for the nonsense about arresting ambassadors and kicking the shit out of U.K. based Iranian diplomats, from you and Jaffa ....... laughable

‘How do we know that she is innocent’

Jesus wept.

🙄 She’s been staying at her mum and dad’s house for the last 13 months. Hardly rotting in hell. Exaggeration doesn’t win the argument

Laughable?

And finally I take it your not a parent? she’s a mother of 6 year old who hasn’t seen her daughter for 5 years you callous sod.

It seems we can’t pay it back due to US sanctions.

He did say it. He said she was training journalists when she said she wasn't. Dropped her right in it.
I don't know why I'm bothering, but I agree with your last post, which is different from your original statement that mentions Spying or your later post that mentions Dissidents.

Yes, he did say she was training journalists. Yes, he did, drop her right in it. On that, we agree. But you have to admit he didn't use either of the other two words. It appears they have been added for shock effect.

It's a two way street. Do Americans ever follow what we want to do? Like send back the wife of a diplomat involved in a hit and run?
The thing is, the government acknowledges the money is owed, so I can’t see them withholding it just to be difficult in the circumstances.

The media would be all over that.

Oh dear, Jaffa, wrong again.

She was allowed up to 300 metres from home. Not a lot, I know, but your claim that she wasn’t allowed out of the house is bollocks.

As for ‘hasn’t seen her daughter for six years’, also bollocks.

When she was arrested, her daughter remained with Nazanin’s parents and visits were permitted. Her daughter only returned to the U.K. in 2019, three and a half years after her arrest, to start school whilst, for the last 13 months, Nazanin has been able to make lengthy video calls to her husband and daughter. No, not great again, but your exaggeration simply shows the weakness of your argument.

It's the Iranians' interpretation of what was said that landed her in jail. More than any other Government minister, barring the PM, the Foreign Secretary is the one with the greatest need to use nuanced language. In that respect it was Johnson's failings that gave Iran the excuse it needed.

I’am surprised your so anti regards this poor woman your usually preaching bile when it comes to someone of colour/religion.

Oh, the penny is finally dropping, albeit after your apparent possession by 20’s

I simply challenged the nonsense written by you and Johnno

Apart from my throwaway remark about kicking the crap out of the diplomats on the way to the airport, which in any case was obviously opinion, what have I written that is nonsense?

🙄 you should have used the throwaway remark emoji. As you say, it was your opinion and I thought your opinion was laughable. Your exaggeration for effect, equally so.

Give in to hostage taking and how many more will end up in a similar situation?

Best thing the government could do for her is take away her British citizenship and never talk about her again.
