Bolton v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 11.11.23

2nd half was poor again.

I like Critchley, but it was obvious from 60 minutes that we needed to change things.

Took a wonder strike, but it was always likely to happen with the space they had.

I feel for the 4000+ of our fans who were there; you deserved better.

Really disappointed in that.

Edit 1: Rhodes should have been subbed.
Edit 2: That was a view from the telly, which obviously gives a different perspective.

Still feel shit.

Well I’ve watched it on tv, and that was a good game of football , end to end , some good football at times . A draw would have been a fair result, but life isn’t fair. Their goal came from a poor pass from Hubby to Dom Thompson whose attempted ball down the line looked to me to have been caught by their player , so in my opinion it was hand ball. I didn’t enjoy the result, but I did enjoy the game . Nice to see Kyle Joseph back !

Personally I’d have hooked CJ and left Dembele on

On a positive Joseph looked sharp

Didn’t think we played too badly but accept we were very toothless upfront.

Why no Lavery today? He is in goal scoring form he should’ve played.Good to see Dembele start but that was at the expense of that second striker.

Even game ,beaten by well taken goal tbf

We're not shite
Were not but too many times a mistake or a poor half is costing us.

Very little end product today.

We've struggled at times to see out leads.

We've also struggled to put any sort of a run together, only once winning back to back games.

We haven't faired that well against the better sides, Peterborough, Derby, Bolton.

Good 2nd half at Oxford, but didn't fully capitalise. We got ahead against Barnsley and held on, but it wasn't a display that'll wins games consistently.

It's just not really all coming together yet.

Don’t forget Bolton have been building for this over the past few years, we are recovering from a wreckage of a season . We won’t go up this season, but we might be a hell of team next
Or we might just sink into L1 nothingness as we've found our level. When you get relegated you have to bounce back with a bit of authority but we just seem to be meandering along. It just looks like we really are a L1 team who managed to creep into the Championship for a couple of seasons instead of believing we should be there permanently.
The other thing is there are teams like Stockport, Wrexham , Notts County who could come steaming past us next season who have come from non league. You have to battle for now not next season.

A lot of our players looked like League Two players today. That is a real problem. Throw in the shit formation and Critchley is heading for big trouble.

I don’t think it’s a question of choosing to battle next season instead of this. It’s more a case of , is this team ready ? I’d suggest not. There’s quality but we only play for parts of matches and the results aren’t coming. Obviously I hope we come good

It's a fair point. The quality that we do have is obvious: Pennington, Marv, Husband (with reservations), Casey, Dougall, Hamilton, Dale, Dembele, Rhodes, Lyons. The others are some with potential and some we need to offload.
I would delete Hamilton from that list. He’s only quality for about one game in six, we need more consistency than that.

No AB. CJ needs to be fed the ball properly. If he's not, it's not his fault. I see him as a Matthews type of player. He can destroy their defence if he's given the right ball.

The game, like most football matches, was decided in the midfield. Their numbers 8 & 19 looked after the ball well and mostly looked to go forward. We had Morgan & Carey who were anonymous and Norburn who doesn’t have an attacking pass in him. Missed Dougall in there today.

Bolton weren’t great just well organised, we weren’t awful but gave possession away too easily too often, one of which led to the goal.

I understand that . Just don't want us to get caught in waiting for tomorrow and it never comes. There will be new challenges and new teams next season and it could be even harder. We are in L1 and I think we should be doing better. You probably feel the same.

What bullshit. Less than 2 years ago they went begging for a loan to keep them in business

I absolutely do, I’m hugely frustrated

No way. There was nothing between the teams today and it took a phenomenal strike from an ex-Blackpool apprentice to separate the teams. Plus both sides had plenty of chances so the score could have been very different. I'll be amazed if you don't at least make the playoffs.
Wind up surely 😎

That's just not a true statement though, is it?

We played well and were unlucky to lose. Sometimes it happens and you don't need to wet your pants over it!
We played well? I find that difficult to comprehend when we barely had a shot and looked shaky at the back.

Their no 8 absolutely ran the whole show. Looked for the ball and continually played it forward to one of their players. Tidy player and exactly what we are crying out for.
I hope Sadler was watching, it just strengthened our case to get Moxon in as soon after midnight on New Year's Eve by the bucketful.

Wasn’t a bad game at all today. A fab goal was the difference. Play the same next week and the result could be very different. Got back at 6pm had a fab day

How long are you prepared to wait?

Bolton had won 5 in a row before today and were bang in form. I thought for the most part we handled them well but it affected our forward play. Thats the first time we’ve not scored since Wycombe away - 12 games ago. We will lose games and that today was one they we could and have lost

On the up however, with the exception of Portsmouth away our next batch of games aren’t too bad (bottom half teams) and there is no reason why we can’t be it a run together.

With players coming back I’m cautiously optimistic and come Xmas the league table may look much more kinder than it does now
