Should bonfire night be banned?

Not a fan of banning things I don't like or agree with, it's a slippery slope and only a matter of time before some bugger who doesn't like what I do wants to have it banned.
Live and let live people.

yep it's a nightmare. Ours won't sit still, just bombs around the house heavily panting. Nowt, I can do about it. Tried all the recommended remedies.
Ask the vet to prescribe some Diazepam if things are really bad, it works very well for one of ours and a friend’s who brings theirs to us every year 👍🏼

Looks like being a wet one. That should dampen things down a bit. A lot of big and municipal displays also cancelled due to cost as well.

I’d ban public sale of anything other than small garden fireworks that don’t go bang at ridiculous volumes. No rockets, repeaters and air bombs etc but allow proper professional organised displays on bonfire night only.

Let’s return it to a commemoration, not a two week excuse to pollute the environment and let all hell break loose on estates and stretch already stretched emergency services.
Probably why I still like Bonfire Night. Memories of all the family round at our house. Little private display, Dad setting his fence on fire with the Catherine Wheel, gingerbread & Parkin and treacle toffee. There’s no need for endless triple bomb repeaters (looking at you Brian, over the road).
Keep the big fireworks for proper organised displays and limit the timeframe such events can be held.
Otherwise, I thought it was still illegal to set fireworks off on any other night (without special permission). Maybe we should try to educate folk to be more considerate. It’s not like the Police would ever enforce it.

Was worried about my princess as it was her first one this year but she hasn’t been bothered so far…

Id sooner celebrate bonfire night than Christmas.

At least Guy Fawkes was a real person who had good intentions.. too bad he failed.

Bonfire Night, a bag of old wank for mouth breathers that scares the shit out of pets and puts unnecessary pressure on emergency services or a harmless tradition for mouth breathers that also scares the shit out of pets and puts unnecessary pressure on emergency services?
Complete waste of money

Should be using all the wood to heat homes not useless bonfires

We are in a cost of living crisis and people are spending tons of money on Chinese fireworks and then not turning the heating on

Absolutely ridiculous . There’s a time and a place for this stuff and it’s not now

All religious stuff aside he wanted to blow up the government.

Im all for it
He was part of a plot to kill the Protestant ascendancy and have it replaced with a Roman Catholic one. The 'religious stuff' was not a side issue but central to the whole event. It wasn't even the Government that was of key importance. What mattered was to kill the King, the Queen, and their eldest son. Had they succeeded there was a chance that the English Catholics - with the help of the Scots - would resurrect the Papal authority but it was a slim one. The fact is that they were foolish adventurers and the possibility that they could succeed was minimal.

The strange thing is that he wasn’t burnt at the stake.
He was sentenced to be hung, drawn and quartered.
He escaped the slow painful death by throwing himself off the gallows and breaking his neck!

Travelling 2.5 hours back last night there are not many bonfires anyway? Compared to 30 years ago

Burning at the stake was traditionally the female equivalent of hung drawn and quartered.

What’s a mouth breather?

What’s a mouth breather?
English lexicographer Jonathon Green notes that by 1915, the phrase "mouth-breather" had developed a pejorative connotation within English slang, defined as a "stupid person." Currently, the Macmillan Dictionary defines the term "mouth breather" as a pejorative noun that is used to mean "a stupid person.

So it's now the 6th November and apparently a lot of FY4 locals must have busy 'working' last night as its almost as noisy.
