I am not, as many on here will not be, qualified or in a position to comment on the 'visa fiasco'.
On the face of it, it looks very slow and painful, but we have rules and they have to be stuck to, whatever the pain, and I'm sure that those who are processing the requests are working at full speed.
During any crisis and the movement of civilians, trying to find a place of safety, there will be those amongst them who are merely trying to enter countries, including ours, in order to sabotage them or spy for a potential enemy. This obviously has to be taken into account when screening immigrants.
Let us not forget that there are many immigrants coming to this country, not just from Ukraine, but also in boats across the channel etc. Should we drop our guard to accommodate one set rather than another? I think not.
That probably sounds very cold and inhumane to you and to others, and I do feel sorry for the waiting displaced. However, I would hate to think that some of the younger Russians, for instance, who are presently fleeing Russia and to whom Putin refers to as his fifth column or indeed any Ukrainians who are sympathetic towards Russia but posing as refugees would be able to enter this country unhindered by a series of necessary checks and then carry out any acts of espionage against our country or its citizens.
