Morning all, went to watch the mighty Gloucester City v Southport on Saturday.
Relegation battle of a game and Gloucester spewed a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 after a really bad injury to Gloucester's keeper. He decided to stay on as they didn't have a replacement on the bench and clearly couldn't save or move properly thus conceding two.
I completely forgot when going to the game about both of these lads.
Brad Holmes - Really anonymous first half playing on the left of a front three. I'd expect far better from him at this level if he's going to make it at Blackpool. Second half he was better, it feels like he's better playing up top on his own and getting shots away in the box. Forced the keeper into a few saves from some good headers but his overall play was pretty poor. Disposed on the ball numerous times. Looked slow and got knocked off the ball relatively often. Off the ball he moved quite well but the quality to get the ball to him isn't there in that Southport side which lead to an ultimately frustrating afternoon for the lad.
Will Squires - He looks like he's got a bit of something. Good with both feet. Positioning is great. Can hit a decent long ball. But he's just learning his trade, he was up against 39 year old Danny Wright who is a bit of a non league / league two veteran and it really showed. He got bullied in the first half and let Danny Wright score and set up a simple goal. I guess it's all part of the learning experience for him. He really does need to bulk up a bit but that will come with time. A bit more promising for me than what we saw from Brad Holmes.
Southport and Gloucester are really poor outfits and it showed when it took me 30 minutes to notice Danny Philliskirk playing centre mid for Southport!
