Branson in space

No, not the pickle but the tosser who begged the Govt for money and who owns an island in the carib.

How many homeless people, how many nurses, how many foodbanks could all this money help and buy?

It's disgusting. And serves no purpose.
Well said. I lost any ounce of respect I had for him during his begging bowl lobbying.
Total disgrace. I’ve seen him get pelters on LinkedIn when he talks about bring an inspirational entrepreneur. The inspirational ones fight through the hard times Richard, not fleece the nation

I just watched it. It was great. If this is the start of getting people into space and back without going through a 4 year training programme then fantastic.

I'm not a fan of Branson, he's a wanker, so have no idea what this entails but isn't the 'edge of space' basically what the Lightning was doing 50 years ago?

He should have just built a new Lightning, much cheaper.

Just been on holiday to a cottage in Norfolk. Good dog walking in Thetford forest. Lightning 2s buzzing about. RAF Markham is their home base.

This last year has taught me that most people talk a good game around money being spent well eg. on 3rd world, homelessness, environment etc. But when it comes to the crunch, would literally spend unlimited funds, blow up the Ozone and Fritzl the kids to buy themselves an extra five minutes. Good luck to him (Branson).

They wouldn't be able to catch the original 😉
As a 15 year old RAF cadet I went to do flying (Chipmunks) out of RAF Waddington. They majored in Buccaneers at the time. Us kids were taking off on grass because the runway was being used by a Lightning doing take off & landing practice. Whilst waiting my turn I was watching it land slowly, rev up and take off....almost vertical. What a sight.

Why have they gone backwards?

Genuine Q
Lightning was an interceptor, literally designed to catch anything, just two engines bolted to some wings, the only plane that could catch and overtake Concorde and intercept a U2 at it's 'safe' height.

I used to bike it down to Bank Lane and watch them take off if you were lucky, if you were really lucky you'd get to watch them do a vertical take off, which was scary.

They've not made anything as quick since because there's no need after the Cold War ended.

Lightning2 is designed more as a combat kind of plane I think and hovers like a harrier, but not really up on modern stuff.

It can land vertically and take off on a short runway. The key to Lightening 2 is that it's 'almost' invisible to radar and it carries it's armaments inside the wings. It's also IT clever at avoiding missiles. When I was watching them they were moving dead slow. The original Lightning that I watched doing take-offs is the fastest thing I have ever seen.

I've seen the Typhoon fly over then take a vertical ascent so you only saw the red flames. That was noisy and impressive (as far as killing machines go). God know what the Lightening was like to see.

I don’t think he actually went into slave merely went very high.

Paraphrasing Elizabeth I. AVFTT at its cultural best.
