Breaking point

i thought that the interview with both critchley and Sadler at the start of the season it came across that Sadler had a bit more ambition than just a rebuilding job.
Well he's not going to say otherwise in public to be honest. Look, the 'scenario' maybe complete bollocks anyway and I'm certainly not saying it's the truth. More that 8th in the table with something still to play for at this stage of the season is not going to have someone sacked or the person resign. In fact, we wouldn't want an owner who was so reactionary as to think that sacking someone now would be a good idea (generally).

Problem with all that, is few of us really believe we've got the set up to kick on from here. We've seen enough all season to make a fair call.

I agree with a lot of that, but presumably he has a game plan in his mind. No doubt we are better now than we were in August.
However, Critchley is capable of better as we saw in his first spell.
Managers who are given a fair chance are much more likely to succeed in the long term. It is madness to think that we should replace the manager every time we have a bad spell. We are doing OK, there have been a few highs this season and we are still in the race. If we fail we fail and we then plan for next season. If after two seasons it isn't working then maybe we should press the eject button but not now.
A problem that we have I think is a lack of leadership on the field. We lack big personalities who will drive the other players forward when it gets tough.
The big personality and leader was supposed to be Norburn? He was made captain very early on in his Blackpool career over much more established players like Marv, Dougall and Husband. I have seen very little evidence that he is a natural leader both in his play and how he relates to the other players.

The thing that registered with me on Tues night was P'Boro played exactly how Critchley stated he wanted his teams to play, dominating possession and controlling the game. P'Boro have achieved that by replacing players like Norburn with younger, more athletic and "hungrier" players. Young players can be more erratic and there is no guarantee they will be promoted but IMO they are the best team we have played this season. The other worrying aspect was when Critchley was asked how to combat those tactics and said he didn't know he would have to look at the tapes!

Of course he could resign and should do so if he thinks he is holding the club back because he's run out of ideas. He won't because honour is rare nowadays and he'll want his payout. He may well have another job lined up. We don't know I sincerely doubt that Sadler had the cajones to insert a performance clause in his contract and there was absolutely nothing wrong with Karl's 12-month rolling contract. I think he gave him a contract because he got compo from Villa when he slunk out the last time for a bigger payday.

Just in regard to the above, it is very sad to see such vitriol between posters. I think the ignore button should be deployed if you find yourself reading stuff that’s just plain out of order and forgetting about it. And moderation ought to be better around this.

On the issue about the players being Critchley players, I am no defender of the coaching charlaton but I do wonder if these are committee signings rather than Critchley players. I get he’s on the committee himself but he has in the past been a reasonable judge of younger players and now looks like he couldn’t spot a footballer in the 66 World Cup winning squad. I do wonder if these players have been pushed onto Critchley because they are at the cheaper end of the spectrum and available.
Asked that question the other day, who’s bringing the players in. Definitely not as good as what we had in the promotion winning and championship sides.

It's nothing to do with firing a manager because he's had a bad spell. That would be madness. It's everything to do with does he get the most from the players he's got? No. Does he have a plan B? That would be another no. Does his formation work for the players he has or is he just following a trend? Results say no and opinion says yes for the latter. Have any players improved or gotten worse? Can we attack and defend as a team? Where would we be without loanee Rhodes goals? Based on what he's done and what I've seen and what I can measure do I feel confident in this manager achieving our agreed upon objectives? For me, he's had his chance and each day is costing me money so if I were Sadler I'd do what I need to do to continue the club's progress and protect my investment. At the end of the season if I didn't feel good about the season I'd fire Critchley or allow him to quit.

We've got a members discount for repeat users, 10 arguments for the price of 8?
Hmmm. I'm thinking more buy one get one free because I don't waste time or energy on having that many arguments in a year. I feel confident we could do well on an argument on Critchley and politics in Blackpool and the fylde.

Nah, unless we lose 10 in a row or something ridiculous he'll be here next season, i'm sure the board will consider a finish just outside of the play-offs as an acceptable, if unspectacular season.

The concern is that if the season does fizzle out, as seems likely, I can't see us averaging 10'000 + again with the prospect of another season under Critchley, you're gonna be looking at PNE level league one attendances at best.
If he's failed the milestones I mentioned before and with one of the top six budgets places outside the playoffs how is that acceptable in any way? Would it be in any other business? Would Sadler even have the money to have bought the club with such low bar standards?

I mean we could do the first half price just to see? To be honest business hasn't been that great...

I think Critchley will be here next season. All of this "sack him now!" might demonstrate our angst but I don't think it will cut any ice with Mr Sadler.
Agree. I've seen positive and negative signs. The lack of consistency is very frustrating, but the play offs are still achievable IF a more consistent set of positive results can be put together. Whether or not that happens though, Critchley will in all probability be around long term as his contract terms clearly demonstrate a longer term approach. There would have to be a disastrous set of results over a significant time period for that to change I think.

That said I personally am far convinced that Critchley is the right Coach to take the Club forward. His tactical approach appears very inflexible, which is not usually an indicator of a top Coach.

This is great its better than reading a book but also silly, can everyone not just get on and be civil with each other there are ways of putting things without being nasty and derogatory to each other. This is about us all wanting the best for BFC, we all have opinions and we are all right so lets show each and everyone of us a bit of respect and remember it also takes a bigger man to say sorry and apologise if we over step the mark
Hopefully three points tomorrow and kick on.

I do overstep the mark on occasions so apologies. I will continue to say how I see it and always respond accordingly!
