What an absolute waste of a signing. A lot on here, including me, pleaded that we did not sign him exactly because of his poor injury record. What do we know?
Gnanduillet bumped him early on in that 0-0 Sky game at Bolton-in-Admin when everyone first got whingey towards Grayson and I think it put him out for ages after.Spoke to a Bolton player today. He said Bridcutt plays 4 games and misses 14.
And a managerSurely we have to cut our losses with both Bridcutt and Stewart and exclude them both from the 25 man squad in January. Central midfield has got to be strengthened in the next window. We also need an experienced centre half, a goal scorer and a winger IMHO.
Even stranger is the signing of Ward. After saying several times, when asked, he would not be offered a new contract, then sign him, albeit on a short term deal. After the WC break, when as Appleton so cheerily informed us, the injury situation was even worse, he’s not even in the match day squad. As Alice said, curiouser and curiouser.I stick up for the board a fair bit, but this signing is hard to defend.
The writing was on the wall that this signing would be a disaster one way or another yet people that get paid hundreds of thousands of pounds a year thought it was a good idea. Very strange.
Even more strange when you think that Bishop signing fell through on a medical, so we’re told and he’s played more or less every minute since signing for Pompey.
Massive January transfer window coming up for the club, a poor summer has led to us relying on the winter window. A very bad place for a football club to be.
You need to lower your expectations we pay Lge 1 salaries so not a chance unless we break that structure are we bringing in quality in Jan.Massive January transfer window coming up for the club, a poor summer has led to us relying on the winter window. A very bad place for a football club to be.
I saw him walking past the Community trust entrance on Saturday looking glum. Feel sorry for him TBH, a good pro.Even stranger is the signing of Ward. If he was looking glum, he and Appleton should be besties. I know what you mean though, after being out all that time, he probably thought he had one more chance to prove himself. And now can’t even get on the bench.I saw him walking past the Community trust entrance on Saturday looking glum. Feel sorry for him TBH, a good pro.
And who's paying the Championship wages all this quality will demand? We will bring in more quality in Jan thats for sure, its the only way we can go to progress. Most people on here have identified 4 positions
that need strengthening CH, DM, ST, and a winger or you could say Hector, Rosier, Vydra and Bowler praps I'm dreaming, quite a few people I think would go for that. What would it cost I here you say ,or the Board wont spend that much, well if those 4 are fit to go its the kind of injection that has to happen if we are to stay in this division.
SS must have known before he bought the club the average Championship wages. We have two choices, we either start paying lower end Championship salary or we accept a life like Rotherham and yo-yo on league one wages. There isn’t an in between. And who's paying the Championship wages all this quality will demand?
Bowler is on 22k a week Forrest will want a chunk of that paying what's our top earner on 5/6/7/8K?
I think he still has a future but not with usIf he was looking glum, he and Appleton should be besties. I know what you mean though, after being out all that time, he probably thought he had one more chance to prove himself. And now can’t even get on the bench.
Probably Simms happened. Or nearly happened. So, how is it Colby Bishop isn't signed on medical grounds, but Liam Bridcutt is???
Well that's it isn't it.You need to lower your expectations we pay Lge 1 salaries so not a chance unless we break that structure are we bringing in quality in Jan.
One of life’s many mysteries which remain unanswered. So, how is it Colby Bishop isn't signed on medical grounds, but Liam Bridcutt is???
The infrastructure was always going to be debt(from Sadlers mouth) and wouldn't go on players wages(debt)as he was already putting in six figures whatever that is every year.Well that's it isn't it.
Because the summer window was so poor it really does look like we'll have to basically have a summer window in January.
Can we actually afford to do that? Most likely not, have the board done a cost benefit analysis and decided League One for the next 3/4 years is acceptable whilst infrastructure comes online? Maybe, I hope not but its possible.
My personal view is that Appleton has been dealt an unlucky hand, but he's done zero to improve it or be practical about the position he finds himself in.
I think he'll be gone before January and someone will come in with the only remit of survival.
Will January change anything I seriously doubt unless whoever is coaching us can get tune out of what we've got.
Wages stopped the Bishop move, the "failed medical" just smoke and mirrors. You get what you pay for in the football world and that's why we find ourselves where we are.So, how is it Colby Bishop isn't signed on medical grounds, but Liam Bridcutt is???
My thoughts exactly.Wages stopped the Bishop move, the "failed medical" just smoke and mirrors. You get what you pay for in the football world and that's why we find ourselves where we are.
