Bridcutt

The positives for me are

1. His ability
2. He turned down a new contract at Lincoln so he must be pretty sure of himself
3. MA knows him well. If he turned out to be a dud the board would be asking questions of MA so MA must be pretty sure he’s a good signing

The negatives

1. His injury record

On balance for me the pros outweigh the cons
And his age and the fact Appletree is obsessed with his for,er layers

Are the board going to ask questions of MA? They overlooked a *lot* of obvious issues to appoint him.

Hope Bridcutt works out as he will be pilloried for every mistake, and Appleton's judgement will be questioned.
We will have 4 holding midfielders, 2 are injury prone and 1 on a bad run of form.

The best case scenario I can see is he is some kind of positive influence on the younger players on the training ground and a dressing room presence. We don’t need another Stewart scenario (who is a fantastic player when fit).

Regardless, I will support Bridcutt, as I would anyone who pulls the tangerine on.

It’s not the end of the world if we sign him. He has a good pedigree and you’d think his injury record will be taken into account with any contract.

He could be the older, experienced head people were asking for and our current defensive midfield options aren’t great.

Fills a position, has experience, is available and knows the manager. No brainer. Could be another Keogh!

I will support him but Barlaser was head and shoulders above anyone else in that role that I have seen this season. I know we tried to sign him in the summer and that is I suppose a positive that we are targetting quality players even though they turn us down

Player who knows Appletons system and standards and can hopefully add a bit of experience on the training ground and to the squad generally, even if not necessarily on the pitch. That being said Dougall and Connolly haven’t exactly stood out in midfield so perhaps he will get game time and free up Patino and Fiorini to play further up the field.
Footballs not just about the XI on the pitch or even the matchday squad - what happens outside those 90 minutes on game day can be just as important. If Man City can find a reason for Scott Carson and Liverpool for resigning Jay Spearing we can certainly find a spot for Bridcutt - especially when he actually could impact our squad on a game day too.

Like what ?

The fact that a lot of fans didn’t want him ?

What are the other “lot of obvious issues ?”
There were no issues. It was a fantastic appointment of a young up and coming coach who has proven himself both here previously and at a range of similar clubs, and earned the right to a championship job. Even more, his approach of not relying on loans maintains the stability of Mr Mansford’s model and guarantees us success in the long term.
