So we’ve won the Football League trophy twice. The first time was in 2002 the sponsors were LDV Vans we beat Cambridge 4–1 at the Millennium Stadium in one of the most one sided finals I’ve ever seen. The gate was 20,287 we had the majority of the support.
The other final was in 2004 we beat Southend 2-0 again at the Millennium Stadium we were worthy winners. The gate was 34.031

The year that we lost to Bolton in the Northern final. (1989?).

Good first leg and brought them back to us with a good chance. Can't remember how or why but there was a real feeling of being on the end of a bad decision and they won 1-0. Hundreds of them celebrating on the pitch at the end, all I could could think at the time was the best chance of ever seeing us at Wembley was gone.

Without knowing what was coming in the next few years of course.

Much better day out in Cardiff than Wembley (although Green Man was exceptional in 2010). Remember on the old avftt a link to the Cambridge board who had us down as a bunch of aggressive pikeys 🤣.
Don't think they enjoyed their day out.

Heartbroken that particular game, like you I thought my only lifetime chance of going to Wembley had gone.
I remember going to Halifax that same campaign carrying a blow up champagne bottle and banana during the inflatables craze.

Yes that was in the earlier rounds. I went too. It came back to me in the threads discussing how interest in the competition increases as it goes further in.

I'm sure we had a good turnout at Shay that night, to say it was early knockout stages. By the time we beat Scarborough at home, then A & H against Bolton, the crowds were big.

Remember playing York in 1998.
I was only 11 and blagged my Mum I was going with my mates(none of them were going)
We won 10-9 on Pens Infront of a crowd just over 1000 with Steve Banks burying the winning pen.

Annoyingly because it went to pens, I didn't get back until really late and received the bollocking of a lifetime due to the fact my mates had knocked on at some point that evening to see if I was going out. But stupidly I'd already left eagerly hoping to catch the players outside the ground for an autograph.
