Call out to volunteers to help get BR ready for the new season

Ever since we started preparing for Homecoming Saturday back in March 2019 there has been a group of volunteer fans who have helped out with activities round Bloomfield Road – clearing up rubbish after games, cleaning seats, marking steps, weeding, planting flowerbeds, painting and generally sprucing up. Those efforts have been much appreciated by the club.

With the new season only weeks away and with the stadium having stood empty since March of this year, there is a lot of maintenance work to be done once more to get it in good shape for kick-off – and it’s a big area to bring up to scratch.

In these most constrained times, the club once more welcomes assistance from volunteers to help get all the tasks done. BST has offered to organise the volunteer force but this call is going out to ALL fans, regardless of which supporters’ group they belong to, or none.

If anyone has time they could devote to helping with the clean-up and refurbishment activities over the next few weeks, please email Tony Wilkinson: deputychair@blackpoolsupporterstrust.com asap to get your name on the list. Whatever you can do to help get Bloomfield Road ready for the new season will be much appreciated.

All work will be carried out respecting social distancing guidelines and using appropriate PPE.

Thanks in advance,

Nice idea and good on those who volunteer but shouldn't we be employing people for the upkeep of the stadium or get some of our big money players to do the work?

Yes give Nuttall a bucket and a cloth point him in the direction of the east stand and tell him to come back in 8 hours.

Perhaps trying to save the club spending money in such difficult times.

As has been said several times in the SS era, there are plenty of supporters who WANT to help with this stuff. If that saves the owner a few quid that can instead go towards quality management / players / training ground / his philanthropic endeavours, then it's win win.

It’s our way of putting something back into the Club, I have found the volunteers also do a good standard of cleaning.
Why's that because we love what we are doing, Simon Sadler is certainly doing his bit so we are doing ours.
Going forward we might be not needed but we will be if we are.
After being what we have been through together that shouldn't be hard too understand. UTMP

I'm sure SS would pay to maintain the stadium. However, we've seen real investment in the team, we've seen real investment in the academy, we've seen tangible investment in Squires Gate. All at a time when the club will have been haemorrhaging money. I don't think we can accuse SS of scrimping.

If the volunteers want to help then that is up to them.

I just don't see why the apprentices cannot get involved as well. Said it last year on the previous board and got a bit of stick off a couple of the volunteers and in general.

Hasnt H&S put paid to apprentices helping?.I remember being on the groundstaff in the 80's early 90's and they would send the likes of Trevor Sinclair down to sweep the kop. Didnt do them any harm at all and gave them an insight into the other aspects of running a football club until the snowflakes stopped it all.

Think it's a great initiative, it would be better if the club reciprocated with a couple of complimentary tickets for a few hours slog.

Brilliant initiative and fair play to all the volunteers. Very proud of you all.

Any chance we could get the rusty stantions painted . I'd volunteer but I dont like heights

Activities planned for break time include hide and seek the BFC player. Turton to hide first whilst the volunteers run far far and away.

Apparently the big louvres/vents are imminent, but the stanchions/girders inside the ground are next season.
They really are an embarrassment but just a nice reminder of what the stains left behind - almost quite apt!

A Community Club should work both ways, if the club are giving time and money toward supporting projects in and around town that benefits many, then one good turn deserves another and as many have pointed out, why shouldn't supporters be made to feel welcome to come and do their bit for their club and feel even more part of it. The more people that take pride in our club and the way it looks can only be a good thing and would be encouraging to others to take their rubbish with them instead of letting it fly to perform crisp packet pirouttes in the SW corner - though it does make for great HT entertainment!
