Callum got Kenny's Number?

Perhaps for the first time since his arrival Dougall has some serious competition for the Duracell role in midfield.

Despite being written off by many this season the "Jack of all master of none" tag is beginning to fade for Connolly as his contribution to the cause grows by the game.

It's healthy competition if nothing else and it will be interesting to see how this plays out over the next few games unless of course "Jack of all" gets moved again to plug defensive gaps.

We should all be glad we have him

Connolly is fantastic asset as a squad player and gives his all wherever he is asked to play.
If we are to challenge next season, he should be first name on the bench, but given plenty of game time to stay match fit.
That sounds like a really back handed complement “first name on the bench” but I do understand what you mean 😂

Yes it is unfortunately the case that he is not the best DM, CB, LB, RB on our books, but I would be happy extending his contract based on the fact he covers so many positions, which gives us flexibility within constraints of squad numbers.
Best utility player since Basham and he has done ok

If Stewart stays fit he's one of the first names on the team sheet then it's either Dougall or Kenny to play alongside him.

Connolly has won me round, I was really skeptical of his ability but he has shown what a valuable player he is, in fact it is a difficult choice between him and Kenny for the other defensive midfield role.

Connelly is a lot better than people realise and that’s why he’s played so much for us this season, critch trusts him to do that job, like I said on another thread I expect him to drop in at centre half alongside thorniley now keogh and Marv are both out.

I suspect Casey will get a run of games alongside Thorniley with Connolly wrapped in cotton wool until one of the other defenders gets back to fitness.

Agree we may need the height of Casey because Cardiff have some big players , but also would be good to see Connelly in his best position at CH as I can only remember him playing there at Millwall away , where he got sent off !

Connolly is a good player and is doing great. Kenny however, IMO, is THE linchpin of our entire squad.

It was his arrival that saw us go on an incredible run ending in him getting us promotion last season - something some people seem to quickly forget AND is the player that mixes it and also dominates midfields of Championship teams who have paid millions upon millions for their players.

Kenny Dougall is an absolute gem of a player that we are very lucky to have and a player who we will also be talking about long after he is gone.

First name on the bench!
If he reads this message board he’ll be made up
I really rate Connolly as a squad PLAYER, would definely renew his contract, and at 24 he might make a position his own. However at this point in time if everyone is fully fit I cannot see him displacing first choices.
If you check back on my comments on Connolly I was saying play him before Wintle as he is our player and it was almost a certainty that we would lose Wintle, and being honest I think Connolly is on a par with Wintle as DM

I get what you’re saying but like keogh & turton he’s growing into a really good asset & like grimshaw replacing maxwell it’s looking good for him,he’s got the tough no nonsense streak about him that fits in well with our more flair players
