Cameron Brannagan

I wonder how many threads last season and now this season on him
Get over him there are a lot of clubs who want him who will pay more in wages and transfer fee
Forget him I dont mean to be nasty by the way its a fact

It was always the Critchley effect that got players to sign. TBH I'm surprised it didn't happen last season as they knew each other from Liverpool.
I still think he'd be a great addition for us.

Think that ship has sailed- I was never convinced he wanted to come as you never got the feeling he pushed for it with Oxford and from from his quotes seemed very settled and content with his lot there.
Agree. He neither wanted to come to Blackpool nor leave Oxford.

Critch knew him from Liverpool but without that connection I don’t think the lure of the seaside is enough.

Not being a pessimist but I do think Critch did have a lure for players because of the Liverpool ethos but that Appleton doesn’t. I wonder if that is a factor in players being reluctant to sign for us now.

How do you know players are reluctant to sign for us?

Quotes like ‘two signings are imminent’ and then nothing, and ‘hoping to get one or two over the line’ sends alarm bells despite the assurance that there is plenty of time.
Barry Ferguson told me it took a month to sort out his contract to the satisfaction of all parties. These things aren't always done in a snap of the fingers.

Saw him on the pitch for the last 15 minutes of a friendly at Hungerford Town on Tuesday. Didn’t make me go ‘oh wow, look at him’.

Brannagan would be a Blackpool player now if he would have handed in a transfer request the past couple of windows. He wont because he is showing loyalty to Oxford because they supported him through his eye infection (potentially could have lost his sight). Coupled with the fact Oxford seem determined not too sell its not really something we should be looking at.

We either didn't offer enough so the club wouldn't sell or didn't offer enough in wages for him to demand a move.

He's apparently one of their higher earners so as usual it's put up or shut up the rest about loyalty is crap.

Agree, I’am not sure he did enough to want to come here to be honest he could have done much more to get the move to Bloomfield road.

So is there an Appleton effect and is that maybe the reason we're struggling to sign players? Does he have a bad rep in the game?

I doubt he has bad rep as he got some great signings year before last and they ran us close.
Unfair to look at last year as he had more important issues to deal with.
I think he is more attack minded than Critch and forwards will not be feeding off scraps

Agree, I think. MA has shown he has contacts in the game and has helped careers, certainly in lge1/2. Look what he did for John Lundstram for one. See the difference in him now if he's involved tomorrow. Kemar Roofe also.

All to prove in the championship, and all to prove whether he can inherit a squad and get along with everyone and vice versa, if the club is insistent on minimal changes. But he must have interviewed well and said the right things.

Probably worth making Cameron Brannagan a banned phrase now. Seems dead in the water. You know when your club has the intention, determination and pull when that sort of move just gets tied up swiftly with 24 hours of first hearing about it. A lot of reported messing about for not a lot of output, and over successive transfer windows. And we're not talking about Charlie Adam reincarnated here, he was a one-off. It was just the sort of move you'd make if you're serious about strengthening your midfield options. Showing the difference a promotion makes from where you were to where you are now. He's a decent talent who Critchley made a plan for several times to help nullify in the games against Oxford. We lost Virtue for a year in one of them as he had him chasing after anything that moved in the middle of the pitch.

I don't know but Critchley had a massive "rep"
My guess MA isn't a big draw at championship level.

"Is this why we're struggling to sign players?"

It's certainly a factor in my view.

Maybe we should've offered the job to a City coach 'a big opportunity'

If he wa coming he'd be here by now.

It just had the feel that we'd say, and Oxford, probably the player too, 'right let's get the fing thing done and over with' and that would have been a pre-contract after the season (though after Dale and possibly Kirk I'd imagine trust isn't viewed as one of our virtues).

It's a simple deal for Brannagan, pay the money, get the player (or at least discuss terms). My suspicion is that we probably would have done that if we'd got the money we were hoping for, for Bowler.

What’s everyone’s confidence this will get done? I pray it does 😫
Somewhere between zero and f** knows any more. Why now after a year of faffing? Chasing the deal but not necessarily the player again? Other moves in the market allowing it? We'll see. There's only the Oxford Mail who has said we're the club to make the move. Karl Robinson has said something is happening but hasn't volunteered a name.

This feels like another one that isn’t going to happen to me.
Happy to be wrong, but I suspect we will just be the catalyst that kick starts his move from Oxford.

Said it on the other thread, feels like we have been here already this season. Look how that turned out.

I don’t think we’d have gone back in for him if we wasn’t very confident of getting him, just because of the backlash if we didn’t.

The difference now is, in the past we’ve never got past the gatekeeper and managed to speak with Brannagan.

I'm sure we would have had an informal word with his agent before any offer was made..
