... abandoned a game or call the players off if he's been threatened and intimidated by the players coaching staff etc ... I never watched but there was apparently disgraceful behaviour in the roma Saville match..13 yellows 2 for players who never even played and constant surrounding the ref I read .. take them off sit them down any warn them ... anymore histrionics I'm abandoning the game final or not ... there's been sillier post than this ...

I have heard of Sunday league games being abandoned for threats from team members and the touchline.

It would be simpler to simply start throwing out second yellows and red cards until the players got the message, or there we too few of them left for the game to continue.

Yes they can. Seen it happen back in the day in one of our games on Blackpool Rd pitches in St Annes

I watched the game. It was farcical but only because the ref didn't get a grip of it early doors. He should have sent Roma staff off and it would have stopped. And he was being regularly surrounded and hounded by 4 or 5 Roma players at a time. He should have shown them all a yellow card the second time it happened.

Read this morning that prior to last night Roma players and staff sitting on the bench had accumulated 13 yellow cards this season. It was coming.

That said, and not to excuse Roma for 120 minutes of shithousery, can you imagine the shit that would have flown here if a player in an Spanish team had missed a penalty versus an English team and an Italian ref had ordered a retake for the goalie moving off his line?

The VAR ref on this occasion was Stuart Attwell, who had that disastrous game in Spurs v Brighton where he didn’t give a stone cold penalty to Brighton and every other decision went Spurs way as well. It appears that his reward for being grossly incompetent was to play a part in a European final….

i have a degree of sympathy for the pitch officials last night - they were on a hiding to nothing. an early red (on or off the pitch and however justified) could have been incendiary in what was always going to be an attritional game.

the game's authorities have to get a grip and help the officials out. for instance, about ten years ago uefa or fifa (or possibly both) said they were going to make it unlawful, and an automatic yellow, for a player demanding to the ref that he show an opposition player a card with that all-too-familiar hand-gesture. the authorities bottled that one and it's got much worse and so has the constant surrounding of refs, play-acting etc.

now this type of indiscipline is endemic on the benches too - the pl has seen record cards and suspensions this season i think - and it seems clear to me that the offiicials can't do everything to contain this behaviour without robust support from those that actually run the game, nationally and internationally..

Players , managers & staff need to improve their behaviour . Subs running on pitch celebrating goals or complaining , Players etc getting in match officials faces all needs to be clamped down on . FOLLOW RUGBYS lead where discipline & behaviour is concerned No reason at all why it cant be .
Dissent of any kind = yellow swear at ref , Yellow 2 yellows = red they would soon learn

..... the technical area 2 be a perpex paddock about 4 feet high .... the bench 2 be fenced with a gate which only the fourth official can open close ...Argentinas third goal in the semi final I think should off been disallowed..just b4 the ball was struck 2 Argentina players had encroached onto the pitch ...

Depending on where the trouble was coming from - I didn't watch it - I would dock the club(s) responsible 10 points with a threat of relegation if it happened again.

I watched it all. It was simmering, but I felt it turned when Roma's penalty was over-turned. The ref could have and should have given a yellow early on when being surrounded by players, but didn't, so it continued.
The 4th official was given a hard time, and there looked to be opportunity to give more yellows to the bench. Second yellow and they're removed, meaning the problems with the bench gets reduced, but he didn't, so it continued.
I wasn't sure the ref was in control. He should have shown he would stand no messing, but didn't.
However, Jose Mourinho should get a ban for his behaviour.
I reffed in the Alliance for a while, and didn't have any problems. However, before the start of each game I always spoke to each side separately to explain I wouldn't stand any messing.
Kids football was slightly different. The parents don't realise their kids can be banned for their poor behaviour. But as a junior football manager, I always made parents aware of that.

When there's 20+ staff and players on the bench they can happily share out the abuse and the cards.

Needs a rethink....even the so called technical areas seemed huge.

If officials were to take this stance I'd be fully supportive of them.

We, as fans, are keen to remind people that without fans football would be nothing, surly the same applies for officials.

Tony was earmarked for the Champions Lge final before Citeh got there.
Mourinho needs the book throwing at him.

Roma should be banned for a season of European football, I do not know if they qualified but the ban should be left open if they have not.
The special one should have a season touchline ban and a heavy fine.
By throwing away his, runner up medal he should also face a seperate disrepute charge

Some jobs .. referees, politicians, presenters on This Morning .. are getting to the point I'm surprised anyone would want to do them.
