Can lavery step up ?

Clean slate for everyone after last season's debacle. We ought to see improvement all over. Lavery, Thompson, Dougall, Ekpiteta, Husband, Carey. What is Lyons capable of?
Even with Yates gone, I'm still looking forward to the season because of this. We have quality all over the pitch and a manager that can hopefully get them showing that quality. A few more additions in the wide areas and we should be flying this season.
ETA; we also have players like Casey coming back as well who had a great season at FGR and ended up as their player of the season. Plus Dale who had a good season with Pompey. There's lots of positives right now even at a time where we are losing our best player and a fan favourite.

A gritty grafter who needs to reset and progress.
The new management regime should help.
A decent impact sub for sure, and maybe he will step up and fire on all six.
Another new striker in addition to KJ and we'll have real competition for places.

Please not this Casey player of the season stuff again. He played in a back 4 who conceded the most goals in the top 5 divisions. His award should be likened to Eddie the Eagle being voted number 1 most entertaining ski jumper of 1988. 😉🤣

You can have 1 top class CH, but that's not enough to hold a whole back line together. 1 player can't be everywhere and from what FGR fans were saying, he was brilliant but had zero help. Put him along side someone competent and let's see how he goes.

I watched him 3 times last season and I wouldn't describe him as "brilliant" 🤣

when he first arrived here and after watching his first few games i said on here that he had the potential to be better than Yates. Have to say that sadly i think i got too carried away with that assessment. However, we are in a league lower than last season but the key to getting the best out of Lavery is quite simple really. Play him in his best position! He's at his best when he's in the box and getting ahead of his marker to get on the end of the things. He's simply not good enough technically to play out wide even though you can't fault his effort to help out. Could be a make or break season for him. Firstly he needs the chance to play as an out and out striker and then secondly he needs to take that chance.
If ever he was going to flourish, back under the manager who signed him, with that little bit more time on the ball, playing against that bit less pace, speed of thought etc, it's now.

A couple of early goals and confidence high, he could push on.

He plays the lone striker role well imo, and actually as well as if not a little better than Yates did. But unlike Yates, you can't play him anywhere else other than up front. He doesn't have the technique to play a bit deeper, or play wide, whereas Yates did.
What he does have is a fantastic attitude and first class work rate, and while you tend to need a little more than that in the Championship, it goes a long way in league one. If he stays fit and is a regular starter, he'll get 20+ goals next season I think.

From what little I,ve seen of him in the flesh this new season. I.e 1 game at Barrow, he looked as good and as fast as he was before his injury. He,s a 100 percenter and will score for fun this season.
I don’t think we will play with a recognised centre forward this season but play a fast counter attacking game with mid fielders chipping in goals as well.
If Beesley / Holmes come good then we will have a c/f in the traditional sense.
Let’s wait and see
