Favoured over Jerry who,was the first player in nearly 30 years to score 20 league goal then we get relegated. Food for thought eh?For league one he'll be excellent. I think he was favoured over Jerry for some of that first season in the championship because he plays the lone striker role better than Jerry, and for whatever reason, we wanted to play that way in some games. Even though Jerry is a technically better player in my view.
Put it this way, I'd much rather SL is playing for us than against us because he's a right pain for defenders.
He scored 15 Championshi goals. Charlie scored 19.Favoured over Jerry who,was the first player in nearly 30 years to score 20 league goal then we get relegated. Food for thought eh?
Looked like he'd bulked up a little when I met him a few weeks ago. Summer hols food or working out, who knows? He’d make up a decent strike force but he’s no Jerry - not got the same guile, pushed off the ball too easily and doesn’t contribute half as much as Yates.
More like chomping at a bit of this and a bit of that. Needs to lose weight and gain some speed. He is Northern Irelands number one striker, full international, I am sure he will get his chance and it is up to him to take it now, he must be champing at the bit.

Chomping is because he’s eating to much as a human being. It’s a play on champing which is correct for the Mr. Ed’s of this world. Do try to keep up.Champing is actually the correct word, chomping is an Americanism and a modern version of the proper saying, but both are used, however, champing is 100% the correct word. Here to educate all day

Don't think the weight is a issue, if anything it benefits his style of play. For where he needs to be to play to his talents he’s overweight. That’s on him and the fitness coach and it needs to be addressed.
slows him down which makes him less effectiveDon't think the weight is a issue, if anything it benefits his style of play.
But he was dropped, injured, played out of position. I suppose the inevitable "he wasn't that great" was always going to come now we've sold him for way under market value (as always). Never have I been more devastated at losing a player since Mickey Burns or Tony Green. He scored 15 Championshi goals. Charlie scored 19.
He’s a great player, amazing work ethic… just an interesting stat into a general point really that we always need a few scoring. But he was dropped, injured, played out of position. Jerry's second goal.Lets hope so!, he definitely looked capable the first 10 or so games in the first championship season prior to his injury, never looked the same since other than that game at Sheff United where he was excellent, but so was everyone else that day.
Was doomed the moment we broke out the "lavery's on fire" chant during the Blackburn home game. Lets hope Millwall don't come back in for him.
My thoughts exactly. And it's a yes from me on whether he can make the step up. I think he has great potential and now is the time to step up and establish himself as our number one strikerPlayed in the right position, he'll do well.

Lavery was favoured, but I didn't agree with it. Yates was on the bench a lot during that first season back in the championship and I think Lavery does play the lone striker role better than Yates. But we should have been playing a system that suited our best striker in my view.Jerry Yates = 241 mins per goal
Kyle Joseph = 303 mins per goal
Big Gaz = 444 mins per goal
Lavery = 630 mins per goal
Plan b is to get relegated to League 2, and sell Lavery to help make up for the drop in income.Let’s hope he does good. If he’s out injured what is our plan b?
He looked pretty slim on the training video from Ireland yesterday, I just think he's a stocky build. Like I say I wish I was as "fat" as him!!For where he needs to be to play to his talents he’s overweight. That’s on him and the fitness coach and it needs to be addressed.
I think describing him as 'dreadful' is being a little harsh. Yes, his contribution in certain games might have been limited, and I think it would perhaps be fair to say he often appeared to be lacking any real sense of purpose or direction, but I frankly think that was down to the lack of constructive coaching from the pair of numpties we had in charge for much of the last campaign. 'Shocking' doesn't even begin to come close to describing the 'car crash' they presided over ...I like Shayne but the jury is out on him being the answer. Last season, along with many, he was dreadful for long periods. The club need to have identified a replacement for Yates.
I wouldn't disagree about your point about coaching, he was also played out of position, lost all confidence and was a shadow of what we had seen the previous season. I would describe some of his performances as dreadful however, but as I say, he wasn't the only one.I think describing him as 'dreadful' is being a little harsh. Clean slate for everyone after last season's debacle. We ought to see improvement all over. Lavery, Thompson, Dougall, Ekpiteta, Husband, Carey. What is Lyons capable of?I wouldn't disagree about your point about coaching, he was also played out of position, lost all confidence and was a shadow of what we had seen the previous season. 100%, it is a big season for the whole club. Every player has to do their bit and give everything to get the club back in the Championship.Clean slate for everyone after last season's debacle.
