Can we all now agree

That CJ is not a wing back, he's a winger and a very good winger too. My MOM today, he was outstanding and had a great understanding with Jordan Rhodes who also had a really good game.

Credit to the back 3 we looked so much safer without Marv, that has to be the back 3 from now on surely? Weir looked good as the attacking CM but was knackered after 70 minutes and I thought Morgan looked better as the box to box midfielder. I hardly noticed Norburn so I guess that means he had a good game,

It was a strange formation as we seemed to play 4 at the back but 3 central defenders, Connolly as left back and no right back or right wing back??

Anyway, still think Sadler is useless but I hope Quitch keeps us playing like that, it was a really great game to watch I did feel sorry for Quitch last night, he must have been gutted not getting at least a couple of the targets he was expecting.

I think CJ was at right wing-back on paper, just very very high up the pitch for most of the game cos Wigan weren't pushing him back. Connolly on the other side made no sense today and it has to stop, now. We could've murdered Wigan with a half-decent system instead of this lop-sided nonsense!

Still, great win and a great game. Hope we can build some momentum now!

i think Cj was at right wing back, but he wasnt being pushed back by the winger left sided player i think because he was having one of thise games where the defended didnt want to risk getting exposed by his pace, if wed have had similar on the left the wigan defence would have been all over the place.

Well he never went back behind our half way line, it was a weird formation but it worked, I think we need to be playing 442 with Gabriel right back when he returns, or Lyons, Pennington and Casey in the middle and Hubby left back, then a midfield 2 of Norburn and Weir or if we play a 433 Norburn, Weir & Morgan and then Rhodes and any one of Bees, Lavery or Joseph alongside him and CJ and Dembele out wide.

"Damning with faint praise"

Suck it up dude.

Cameron McManaman gave a great version of left winger who could not be arsed running . Lad on other side was much more dangerous. Rhodes is still a player and Beesley worked hard to link. Pleased for Virtue and Dougall who always try their best even when things go badly. Provided renewed energy. Grimshaw was unbelievable in all parts of his game.

Was it a three? I thought they started ad a 4 with Connolly and Husband as full backs.

It was clearly a 442. Weir and Norburn were excellent in centre mid, Morgan was very good too at left mid and CJ was great today. 4 at the back looked much more relaxed and Casey was very good again. Rhodes up front played great too and we actually looked like we had a goal threat.

Our left wing was not much of an attacking force. Think Critch will soon put CJ there with our new scottish Messi on the right.

Im not so sure about that. Thought Albie was excellent floating about off the left and added some more creativity and solidity.

Great result today, and it was a good game, and we deserved to win. That said the formation was still weird and I'm mystified as to why he is continuing to play certain players out of position. He can either foresee something that no-one else can or he's totally stubborn. I am worried that he seems resistant to change.

It was a back four but they did well for most of the game. Connolly was weak towards the end but then, I don't have him down as a left back.

Still think Sadler is useless? Have a word with yourself you sound as if you’re 14

I agree, it was a very strange formation and I can only assume Critchley and his staff identified their right winger as a threat cutting inside so went with a right footed defender to counter that.
It worked but I'd still rather we played to our strengths and dictate the game rather than play to stop the opposition at the expense of our attacking ability and balance. Going forward we offered very little down the left against a team that we should, in all honesty, have beaten much more comfortably!
The 3 points are in the bag though so Happy Days! 🧡🍻

If we're going to play a flat back 4 I don't have a problem with Connolly playing right back but he seemed to be on the left as did Hubby, unless Hubby was the left sided CB? Anyway, I would prefer to see Gabriel and Hubby as our full backs with Casey and Pennington in the centre or Lyons and Hubby, Connolly is 3rd choice as far as I'm concerned but he certainly isn't a left sided wing back, and he isn't a right sided wing back for that matter!

Okay, although I'm still a bit confused by it because Pennington was taking up position as a centre half?
I think you’re a bit confused because you don’t really understand football.

The formation was clearly 10-1 with inverted flying wingbacks combined with a mildly reversed centre back and a defensive striker. I had my doubts tbh but it proved to be the correct decision in the end.

For the aficionados who really understand soccer I think it’s known as the “Gerrard’s Gambit”. Which as you’ll be well aware is a subtle tweak to the Charlie Adam “Aha, gotcha..nutmeg applied to a whole match” game plan.

Clearly it won’t work in every match. I suspect the next game might involve the Mortensen/ Matthews Maze, but obviously I might also be playing mind games with the Fleetwood opposition who obviously read this board because of all the indepth footy insights.

Connolly can cover several positions and so is the perfect squad player. He wouldn't be a starter for me unless cover for an injury but so valuable to have on the bench.

Looked like 3-5-2 with the inverted wingers when we had possession. Then 2 blocks of 4 when without the ball?
Whatever it was, it was a joy to behold.

Right about the back 4 but not sure why you thought Connolly & Hubby were at FB. Connolly LB, Pennington RB.
I think you need to go to Specsavers. They do home visits now for the needy. 🥸🤓😂

6 games in. 2 wins, 3 draws, 1 loss.

‘Sadler is useless’.

And If you felt sorry for the manager, why are you calling him ‘Quitch’?
I think it’s because he quit as our manager leaving us in the shit - remember?

Wycombe are our next opponents.
