Can we do better?

I'm as guilty as anyone for this, so please take this in the spirit it's intended.

I feel like as a forum of Tangerines, debate and discussion over the past couple of years is increasingly polarised and confrontational.

Has anyone else felt this? Could we perhaps figure out a more convivial way to talk about stuff?

Every single one of us loves Blackpool. It sucks that politics and different beliefs seems to increasingly divide us.
I've been confrontational and mocking with posters who I disagree with, so I'm in a glass house.
Is this just inexorably linked to how toxic UK politics/society is, or can we find a way to disagree agreeably?
I always think of an away day at Stoke when Jerry scored near the death. Absolute limbs, random people jumping on my back and hugs all round. I'd hate to feel that if that happened today we wouldn't all necessarily be united because of online squabbles over politics.

Post very little now... respectful debate is rarely sustained on here🙁

It's not just on here. Every single social media forum seems to descend into vitriol. My other half goes on sewing group and vegetable growing sites and even those end up in slanging matches. I think it is because people act more aggressively from a safe distance.

So do we just give up? Don't really know what im trying to express here, but isn't it a bit mad that if you chucked 20 of us in a room with a pint we'd talk about what unites us and find common interest, while the online forum seems to result in everyone forming tribes.

Totally agree with everything you said and think it all Just comes down to respect and common decency. My only issue was the bit about everyone hugging each other, I hate being hugged by strangers and struggle. with it even when it's by my friends of either sex

Just don't take social media too serious because if you do it's time to take a step back.

Lies, rumour, anger and abuse a part of the norm but opposite to humour, good debate and act of kindness that happen all the time especially on here.

Just to add the Ignore button is a great add on from those posters who with bore you to death or push it too much.👍

Yes, give it up and go back to normal life. It's a much happier place. I've pretty much given up on all of Social Media now except for this site, probably because it's Blackpool related so still has the power to draw me in.

The written word has no emotion and can be misinterpreted as harsh or abrupt at times. In a real life conversation body language, eye contact, and tone of voice speaks just as loud really.

This is the only social media I use apart from YouTube I feel sorry for the young kids these days I can’t be good for their mental health.
