Carey - time to shine

He’s always had talent, and yes I know it’s only pre season but he was masterful in those 45 minutes at Barrow. He waltzed around with consummate ease, was instrumental in our forward play and I got to this conclusion before he scored a brace.
Having Norburn on the pitch allowed him to play without fear, plus he always reminds me of Ross Barkley - similar style and build.
Out of those who were here last season, Carey and Apter look the most exciting.

The experience he gained last season should be invaluable. He's still learning what the professional game is all about but now is the time for him to shine. It's clear how much ability he has but I've often felt he needed Norburn/Trybull players in the midfield with him. Along with Lavery, he's the one I have a good feeling about this season.

Came on against PNE last season when Bridcutt went off and was instrumental in us winning. He, along with Dougall, were the midfield duo that dominated at play-off chasing Huddersfield season before last. Scored an absolute cracker at Hull. He was the midfielder most involved in our goal that won us the game at Norwich at the end of last season. Just a few examples off the top of my head of his potential. It hasn't all been good but the quality is there imo, and could be immense this season if played in the right role (i.e. not a holding midfielder alongside a kid like last season).

I'll reserve judgement. I hope it is his season but I'm still quite doubtful if I'm honest. One game playing in a much better dominating team against inferior opposition doesn't win me over.

His ability has never been in doubt played in the right position. He was really starting to shine through up to the Boxing Day game at Hudders when he picked up that horror injury, but sadly like most players last season he badly suffered due to the inept tactical shit shows by 2 managers never more evidenced by that team performance at Watford.

Yesterday he was outstanding during the 45 mins he played and really looking forward to see what he can produce this coming season.

Glad to see others feel the same way.

For those who are unsure, if he played yesterday and was Mr trialist, we would be saying wow - 100% get this guy in.
Mustn’t forget his age (although I have forgotten. 22? 😂), and as said, he needs a new contract asap. One that shows that each party are looking after each other. 3yr minimum in my opinion. 🍊

Edit to add:-
He scored two, one assist and could’ve had two had Tharme not hit the underside of the bar.
I so hope we can add to the ranks and be solid from match 1 this season. We can’t wait around for cheap deals, if we do then we might end up having a bad start.
The feel good factor is back with us - let’s build on that.

My problem with Carey has always been that am not sure he knew what he was supposed to be doing. Almost looked nervous being on the pitch, doing something wrong or being in the wrong place. Appleton and McCarthy could have destroyed him as a player but I feel we will see a very different Sonny under Critchley.

Appleton and McCarthy destroyed most players last season as alluded to by Kenny Dougall in his Radio Lancs interview whilst in Ireland .
