Carlisle away

Lots of shall we say ‘interactive’ away days in the late 60’s early 70’s, great away game.

There is of course , both Carlisle born Helen Skelton and Roxanne Pallett.
And to be honest, I’m struggling with anymore famous faces after that. Well, none that if I mentioned you’d need to Google who they are.

Eddie Stobart is from Carlisle not that anyone would recognise him just his trucks ! I think Steve Borthwick the England Rugby Union Coach is from there too although he also went to Hutton Grammar School .

Ive been there a few times but the most memorable was when I was about 17/18 we played them in a night game. Me and my mate were desperate to go but had no way of getting there so I ended up “borrowing” my brother-in-laws car as he and my sister were on holiday. I think they call it Twocking now!
I got rumbled because his mate who was a copper in Cumbria constabulary phoned him to ask why he was going up the M6 at over a ton.
I can’t remember the result as it was the thick end of 40 years ago. I’m a reformed character nowadays 😇

Grace Dent - oof 😍
Anyone remember the two one win on New Year's Day 96? Goals from Marvin Bryan (feared by the scum, loved by his mum) and a storming headed winner from Dave Linighan. Everyone on that away end was steaming from the night before. Dizzy days before it all went sideways thanks to Eric Nixon.

August 1988, League Cup, midweek game. 1-1 and Pool won the replay. Drove up after work hence the rush.

You were still unreformed two years later driving into Naples from Sorrento for the Cameroon game at similar speeds and uninsured yet again 😉

I haven’t the foggiest. Did he? I couldn't even remember the score apart from it being a draw but knew the date and Google did the rest for me. According to Wikipedia Andy made his debut on the Saturday prior to this game v Chester and scored but I can’t find any reference to the Carlisle scorer.

When I was on the road for a living, I actually got one of the Eddie Stobart books where you can tick off all the names/numbers of the Stobart trucks - weirdly made the journeys more enjoyable 🤔
