Forest Green Rovers on loan. Odd.
Not at all, I think he needs games and isn't ready for the Championship. Hopefully it will do him good and can come back a better player.Forest Green Rovers on loan. Odd.
Forest Green have a new manager. Who knows how they will play.Good move for him, Forest Green play the right way and having come up from League 2 will be a good environment for him to grow in.
Given we paid in the region of £1 M for him (allegedly)
Where do you get that figure from? I was under the impression the fee was closer to £100k.
Possibly add-ons might push it up towards £1m.
It was a low initial figure but it went up with appearances, Internationals that sort of thing so it was potentially up to a million but I doubt he has budged from the initial price yet.Tbh I might be wide of the mark, I seem to remember a trusted poster on here at the time of his signing mentioning it was around a million. Could be bollocks but he had two years left on his contract at Leeds plus an add on year so might not be too far wide of the mark.

Yes but he’ll be farting like a trooperThis kind of loan is sustainable and will align with clubs policy of organic growth. Hopefully Casey will get game time, benefit from the experience and return Carbon neutral.
Spaces in the squad need to be freed up MatesDisappointed, I hoped he’d be given a chance this season, especially with MA arriving with his youth policy.
Agree, just hope we get better in.Spaces in the squad need to be freed up Mates
Probably just a cheap punt off a tip off to see if he can adapt/how quickly he can adapt, and if he has more to his game than a long throw.I suppose the question is where does Tharme fit into the squad?
I don't think it's safe to go with just Marv/Keogh/JT with Connolly/Husband as back up since those two might be needed elsewhere, so either Tharme is here to play, or the club has someone else lined up for the season.

Kind of thing you'd do in league one or two really. Like pushing on and signing Olly Casey anyway after promotion.
Didn’t we pay £1m for him?
Yep. Luton were linked with him and we were linked with Allan Campbell at the same time. That got flipped around somewhere along the line and they got a midfield starter in and got to the play offs. And we got someone who Critchley couldn't find a role for either side of breaking his foot on Boxing Day when he had to try and cover at centre mid as it was an obvious squad gap all season. Threw up more questions than answers. The same could be said about Sonny Carey.
Think it's more calf muscles than hamstrings he has a problem with. Looked like he'd got pushed a bit too much second half of last season. Certainly that Cov away game you could tell they'd got the order of starters wrong after they called back Thorniley and let Gretarsson go. Critchley only seemed willing to use Casey as last pick rather than any sort of master development plan to me.Not sure I agree with this one with Keogh’s dodgy hamstrings.
And your course as regards the fee?Hmmm strange, I didn't see this happening to be honest, thought he looked all over the place against QPR, however appeared to have come on somewhat against Barnsley where he scored, however that was Barnsley who were dire last year.
Given we paid in the region of £1 M for him (allegedly) I thought he'd have seen a fair bit of action, however at 22 he needs to play games now and maybe MA has told him he's likely to be back up this year. Thorniley cannot leave now unless we bring in two centre backs.
Interesting where this leaves Tharme, who is actually a year older that Casey, always thought Tharme was a centre back tbh but he played RB against Southport so perhaps he's backing up JG this season.
I’m not a big fan of Thorniley either to be honest. He’s not bad by any means, but there were several times last season where he lost concentration which led to goals. The last QPR goal away was diabolical. Their player made such an obvious run into the box for the cross and Thorniley was too busy ball watching. Think he did a similar thing at Fulham away if I remember correctly, he was ball watching and let Mitrovich waltz past him.It was a low initial figure but it went up with appearances, Internationals that sort of thing so it was potentially up to a million but I doubt he has budged from the initial price yet.
I agree with Middxile, I would think Thorniley is well back in favour, I have no idea why Quitchley didn't seem to rate him, he's certainly Championship standard. Get him contract extension if Apper's rates him. Otherwise if he is off too then we need a new centre half in.
remember we paid in the region of 1 million
