Change in Tatics

We know Critch picks his team depending on the opposition (personally I prefer to play to OUR strengths and let the opposition worry about us) but we seemed far more at ease on Saturday with Maxi kicking it long or throwing the ball rather than all this square passing along the back line which invariably invites trouble losing possession or gives the ball straight back to the other team once we have ventured up to the halfway line.

I think it’s right to play depending on the opposition. Unless you’re Manchester City or PSG and know you can dominate your opposition it’s bonkers to try play a certain way no matter what as once the opposition figure out a method to stifle you then you’re done for.

Critch appears to have an ability to chop and change tactics and he’s building a squad of players who can do that and play multiple roles and positions.

We dominated Barnsley but played very differently to how we got great results against Fulham and Middlesbrough. I
Imagine we’ll play a different game against Hull tomorrow who are a physical team and then again against Blackburn who seem tricky to pin down exactly as to what their style is. I trust Critch to get his tactics right most of the time although it must be said he is still learning.

Nice to see Barnsley getting booed for their pretty, triangular passing,(in their own half). Main difference I thought was Anderson who was able to stretch their defence all afternoon, despite regularly having three players marking him. Thought he was superb.
