Charlie Kirk Close

This is a good response to the fact our most creative player Keshi is going to be out for weeks. I like the idea of playing a conventional winger on one side and an inverted winger on the other, particularly when the latter would be Bowler who is improving with every game. Doing this pulls defences around. Relegation is not an issue now and playing with the shackles off a bit more could well see us pushing up the table.
I thought Kirk was Right Footed??

Really surprised that he moved to another league 1 club in the summer and not a championship club. I think the move to Charlton was a total misjudgement for him and I suspect he'll be able to develop with us much better. I think we play a system that will suit him.
Good signing if it happens.
I’m pretty sure that he will moved for higher wages.

I am sorry to see Demi go, but he has got a decent move and I think he will do really well there. It's football, it happens. If we get Kirk I think he will be decent but need to see him play in a few games first. Same with Dale, started with a blinder coming on against Reading but clearly wasn't recovered from injury and hasn't shown much in the few games he has started in.

As for lower league players, Marv is a great example. I wouldn't mind betting some EPL clubs are already having him watched and will be sniffing around in the summer.
Marvin has one thing holding him back and that is his lack of distribution skills from the back. Defensively flawless but whilst he lacks composure when on the ball under pressure, he will struggle to make PL level which is bloody good news as far as I am concerned as I dont want him to go anywhere !

I'm sure Critchley knows what he's getting. Speaking with my mate who's a Charlton fan, he said it just didn't work out for him and was seen as a bit of a luxury player. His pre Charlton form suggests there is potential though.

One day it will again be fashionable for a defender to be just that.Someone has to be just good at being in the right place winning back possession and protecting.

Someone else's role for the finer arts

Modern way now. Like GK's being comfortable with their feet and playing the sweeper role. What happened to a good old fashioned shot-stopper and nothing more !

One thing we do know is that we need strength in depth. Not sure if it’s the pace of the game now but it looks like we will burn through players every season so we probably need 3 players per position in the total squad

It’s why I think we signed Connelly. He can do an ok job in 3 or 4 positions and unless you have the money to sign 35 players and keep them all fed you’ve got to go and get a few Connelly’s to fill in

Will link well with Dale.
The Crewe journalist questioned by Sean McGinley says Dale will be worried about the arrival of Kirk cos Kirk plays in the same position and is better. Or words to that effect.

Left side of an attacking 3 in 433 or 4231 formation. I guess Dale could play on the right but he'd have to shift Bowler.

Not sure how Critch will use all these attacking players now. Bowler, CJ, Dale, Kirk, Anderson for 2 wide positions. Lavery, Yates, Madine, Beesley for two striker positions.

What's my 4 from those 9? Really don't know. Bowler for one. Lavery another I think, our most likely scorer. Anderson when fit.

The same as he’s always done, pick the player most in form/fitter/better suited to facing the next opposition. Critchley has made it clear he likes to have two strong options for each position, like we have at RB with Dujon and Gabriel.

It’s nothing new in the wide positions anyway, we already had Keshi, Bowler, Demi and CJ. Keshi and Dale can both play as a number 10 as well, as can Carey, so it gives us flexibility. But obviously Carey and Keshi are out for a while.

It’s a good problem to have though!

I like the sound of that. Get the impression Dale perhaps is a player that needs to fight for his shirt to get the best out of him at Championship level.
