Chris Beech Radio Lancs interview

He was always a very professional and good chap.

And if Le Massif sont promoté dans les joue offs, will Downes want to drop a league to a a club a fraction of the size?

I think we need a succession plan!

really good interview that, very impressed with him.

was a big fan of chris as a player - a year or two younger than me and so was very aware of his background and development - he absolutely maximised his ability and has had a fine career. it seems clear that he is as thoughtful, honest and intelligent professional now as he was then.

i know there isn't a current vacancy, but if i was a hirer and firer, i'd certianly be having a chat with him at the very least.

Yeah, certainly one to keep an eye on if off-field vacancies arise. Was rather unlucky that his managerial spell at Carlisle was cut short.

Also had a very strong reputation as a youth coach at Bury and Rochdale.

A good player as well, intelligence made up for his lack of pace. Improved as he got older, unfortunately for us.

Is he happier in a SD role than being a coach? He may be more use to us in the coaching set up?

that interview showed (to me, at least) that he is a critical and creative thinker who can see the bigger picture - transferable skills yes, but more suited to upstairs rather than the grass i'd say. the fact that he knows and understands the grass is a massive plus. he also gets the club, the fans, the town and wider area. that's a massive plus for me also.

It's surprising that Chris Beech is so popular on here considering the comments when Fylde were recruiting and Dave Haythornthwaite made it clear he wasn't looking for namby pamby part timers who were going to slope off at 3pm to pick up their kids from school. I seem to recall that nobody in their right mind would work for Fylde 😆

But it seems to have worked out well for both parties and as Jaffa says, getting Nick Haughton to re-sign is a massive coup for the club. Recruiting Chris Beech, Adam Murray and others shows Fylde are moving in the right direction.

Good listen that. Enjoyed the Billy Ayre story about the tunnel incident with the Brentford player. 😂
every time someone who has worked with billy ayre hears his name mentioned, a massive smile breaks on their face, closely followed by tributes of maximum respect for him as a professional, and more importantly, as a person. it's a beautiful thing that we appreciate just how unique and truly special our billy was.

the great man was gone far too soon, but what a positive, life-affirming impact he had on us all.

back on topic, every prospective candidate should always pass 'the billy ayre integrity test'. i think chris beech does.
