To be fair my season so far has been limited to the highlights. However I was more than a little disappointed when I saw the own goal on Saturday. If Maxwell had moved off his line by about a foot he could have gathered the ball instead of blaming Marv. Is this a regular problem?

Got to agree Wanstead. One of two things should have happened before it reached Gret, who at least tried to deal with it. Either Turton gets a lot closer to the width and stops him getting to where he got, or Maxwell deals with a ball that effectively rolled across his 6 yard line.

Yeah you’re right actually, a quality keeper would have been right on top of that. Think he’s okay overall though, doesn’t make any huge errors. Will likely improve with more matches as the whole defensive line get to know each other better.

Agreed we are in the third tier and at that level he's adequate.

The biggest problem with Maxwell is that he has virtually no competition for his place whatsoever, although that's not down to him, it makes little difference how he performs as I can't see him being dropped for either of our options.

Because he's comfortable with the ball at his feet I think that was a big box ticked for NC.
Commanding verbally with the back line but does look like he's been coached by Barry Siddal.

Doesn't fill me with much confidence and I said our worst bit of business over summer was allowing Alnwick to go because we'd given Maxwell a new deal.

I know Dougall has been there 10 minutes, but I would make him captain. He can justify his place in the team, he can get in the ref’s ear when something happens, and he shows more signs of being a leader than any of the other outfield players.

Maxwell can then concentrate on his own game, which I think should be his priority.

Maxwell never comes for crosses and doesn't command his defence - need better if we are to challenge this season
