33 years ago tonight Pan AM flight 103 aircraft named Clipper Maid of the Seas was blown up by a bomb 30 minutes after leaving Heathrow en rout to JFK New York.
RIP. passengers, crew members and those residehts who perished that terrible night in Lockerbie.
The first we heard in NY was that contact had been lost with the aircraft it only later emerged as to what exactly happened.

I remember the first news report that a light aircraft had hit a petrol station, I think someone posted on here that they remember it flying over the Trough or somewhere around there.

I remember that day quite clearly…. I know it transpired that John Lydon and Kim Cattrall were booked on the flight but missed it … 🙄

And the Four Tops.

Seth McFarlane was supposed to be on Flight 11 but got the wrong time and arrived 10 minutes too late to board, fell asleep in the airport lounge and woke up to the breaking news story of it hitting the North Tower.

I love the Four Tops…didn’t know about Seth mcfarlane… Kim wanted to buy someone a present and I think John had an argument with his wife and that’s why they missed it.. I really admire him because unfortunately she now suffers from dementia and he’s devoted to her…

I remember distinctly turning the radio on and trying to fathom out what was going on. Seems a long time ago.
Not sure the real culprit(s) have ever been put in the dock for this?

Were a couple from Blackpool on the flight, their kids lived in Blackpool and got a million each(i think) in compensation, think both died youngish after not being able to cope with parents death and that amount of money.

Despite all these years, I never knew what the plane was called. Planes never really have names in the way that ships do...

Awful tragedy, although in some ways we can be thankful that only 11 people in Lockerbie died. You'd think that it could have caused much greater loss of life.

I think the parents were in one of the houses flattened by the plane. One of the brothers, Dave, lived in Blackpool but unfortunately died in Thailand where he was with an old freind of mine. Although Scottish (nicknamed Misty) he did follow Blackpool and I seem to remember him being arrested in the late 80's/early 90's at home game. He was well known around town in the pubs and clubs.
