Clutching at straws

He doesn't seem to have it in him to grind a result out. It's admirable that some want to point out many of his difficulties are not of his making, but having a pop at the fanbase and running the players down in that process is a little strong - and yes, does appear like clutching at straws.

Ok, let's clutch at straws...

We've been close in a good number of games. If you replay about 5 or 6 games in your head and add a few better players in key positions we win the games. A lot of our downfall has been of our own making. It is within our gift to fix that.

We have also improved a little bit in terms of our defensive record since the trip to Spain and in the last couple of games we've actually made some quite good positions on the pitch. Again, with a little bit more quality we might take advantage of them.

We've played a bit better of late. The pattern of play is more evident. The wrong players are doing the right things. If we've targeted some round pegs for those holes currently being filled by square ones then we could improve.

Sonny Carey is looking more dangerous and shooting more regularly. He could be the goals from midfield we've lacked for a long time.

We've still got Gary Madine who is a goal machine.

We are the only club who could sign Josh Bowler and he would make a massive difference. He obviously enjoyed playing in the 433 earlier in the year and did well.

How's that for straw clutching? I think that's a whole fist full of straw to be honest! I'm not sure I believe any of it but I've done the Kevin Stewart 12 step positivity plan and I have no time for negative Nellys in my life. Later I'll be telling you about a great cryptocurrency investment you can make and getting all huffy when someone tells me to shut up.

With Appleton turning it around.

Discuss.
It's not clutching at straws at all. There are significant risks whichever way the club turn. There is a chance with the right players, better luck and improved discipline on the pitch that things may turn around. Also a new Head Coach may take time to turn things around as he may want to play a different system, AND it might not work.

Conversely, a new Head Coach might freshen things up, and improvement could be immediate.

Very difficult decision-making process at this stage of a season. If we got relegated under Appleton the decision gets easier, but as things stand, there are potential pot-holes which ever way the Board turn.

Certainly ain't clutching at straws if he stayed.

Exactly . Changing manager doesn't guarantee the desired result . I'm no fan of Appleton but he's been dealt a crap hand that any manager would struggle to stay in the game with . I think we need to see what cards he gets in January
He’s been dealt a poor hand, but it’s his job to make it work. He’s not someone plucked off the street being forced to do the job. He’s an experienced manager. If he doesn’t have the players he needs to play his 433, why not make us to go full on Simeone style Athetico Madrid 442 shithousery and grind out some results. I don’t think he’s a good manager by any means, but Ince managed it with us.

But we don't have the players for 442 either

That's the point

Has he had a pop at the fan base ?

Has he ran the players down in the process ?

Can you send any links to anything confirming these issues or is this just in your own mind ?

I was referring to fans who want us to rally around him. Don't know if you are one of those and sorry if that wasn't clear in my post..

'He's been dealt a crap hand'.
OK, but he knew what he was getting, and what more he was likely to get, if any.
Did he think, when he took over, that he could change things? If so, why hasn't he?
What was he promised when he was interviewed? More and better players?
If he was, and didn't get what he wanted, why is he still here?

Given his unwillingness or inability to play anything other than a 4-3-3 formation it will mean we have to go out at recruit players that fit. Even then, his tactics baffle me.
