If you can settle a discussion please between myself and the Mrs.

I’m saying the original shop was in Poulton just by the chemist (I think the owner was a guy called Dave, a Seasider) but the Mrs is adamant the original shop was in Thornton?? I’ve gone “all in” on the former 🤷‍♂️

Pretty certain the Poulton shop wasn't the original.

I used both of them, the Cleveleys one on Victoria Road was a magical place for me , saving up for an album and then going buying it and browsing the records. I wouldn't have believed then that eventually you could access anything on somewhere like Spotify for free. Think the Cleveleys one was the original. The plastic bags were iconic!

The first record I bought was Rebel Rouser, by Dianne Eddy and I bought it from a shop on Victoria Road in Cleveleys, but I’m pretty sure it was towards the prom end on the left hand side. They had booths where you could listen before buying.

You'll have to eat humble pie

Cobweb started in Cleveleys in 1971

Cobweb in Poulton was part of the teenlowe complex
which only started construction in 1973

I only remember the one in cleveleys, late 70s early 80s, near where Wetherspoons is now, that said I was only a kid at the time and wasn’t allowed to venture into poulton, my dad always warned me against it, said it was full if hooray Henry’s 😁

I have a notion that Cobweb replaced a shop outside the Teanlowe, so that would be 77ish, maybe 76, no 76 or even 75. I didn't live in PLF, but used to go from school on GRW (where the new TG isn't going).

As seasideone I was a Blackpool town centre shopper. Anyone else think there was something a little bit intimidating about record shops back then?

Didn’t they open another shop on Dickson Rd? I seem to remember a big window display featuring Greetings From Asbury Park

Can't remember that, but GfAP was around 73.

Even if you're into Indy big style listen to the first 4 Springsteen albums GfAP was the first, Born to Run the third TWTIATESS the middle. All really good. The slow songs among the best ever imo.

The shop in the paper I believe is BP Insurance now - Previously Swinton Insurance had a few after hours liaisons with a young lady from Swinton's in the 90's in that shop 😎😜

The shop is now Mr Nitros. BP insurance is a few doors down.
Original owner Derek is on the photo. He used to live on Whiteside Way in Cleveleys.
The iconic bag was designed by a lad I knew called Chris Whelan.

Hi Guys, this is 'Record Dave' from Cobweb, sorry for the late reply, but I'm currently in the (stressful) process of selling my late Mother's house in Cleveleys. Many thanks for all your kind words whilst reminiscing about the past, it's much appreciated!
I'm still watching the Pool at every home game, plus (occasionally) away and praying for a miracle in the next two weekend's fixtures!

Cobweb was first established in late 1971 in a small shop on Victoria Rd Cleveleys (which used to be a Chiropodists), in between where KFC is now and Mr.Nitros Ice Cream (which used to be an old hardware store). I started working there as a weekend job at the age of 12 with free records as my payment. We then expanded into the corner shop and then later moved into larger premises down the road, which is now BP Insurance (formerly Swinton). I became the Cleveleys shop manager after leaving Baines Grammar School in Poulton.

Cobweb Poulton opened in 1974 as part of the original Teanlowe Shopping Centre, on the outside facing the car park, next to the public loos! Myself and Geoff (the original business partner to the recently deceased Derek Kirk) took over the Poulton Cobweb in 1985 and successfully ran it until 2007, when nobody wanted to buy music anymore (only download). We then sold our lease to Lloyds Chemist next door, who knocked through into a double unit and the rest is history!

Take care, keep the faith (whichever division we are in next season) and UTMP! 🧡

Cheers Tim, I've also got a loft full of vinyl (7" and 12") which is a job for me to sort out after my Mum's house is sold! Maybe we should have a joint Cobweb/Tangerine Car Boot Sale and put the proceeds towards buying some decent players for next season? 🤔🧡
Never sell your vinyl Dave, it has a heartbeat 👍

Cheers Leither, but how dare you mention Martin's Newsagents in the same sentence as Cobweb! 😳
I used to go on regular daily/weekly spying missions to Martin's, checking their prices and undercutting them! 😉
UTMP 🧡
I was only a kid when I went to Martin’s Dave but many great times spent in Cobwebs chatting to you and Geoff - great times. UTMP 🧡

One of my best mates from school's dad part owned the Poulton one, Geoff, got most of my albums there out of family solidarity even though into the 90s they had to order most things you wanted. What? You don't have "The Bends"?. Sad to hear it's no longer there but not surprising. Still some record shops here in Portland, Oregon but they're becoming rarer than hens teeth.
