If I recall Sir Jimmy Armfield‘s debut was awayat Pompey on a Xmas Day and both teams travelled back to Blackpool that evening for the return league fixture on Boxing Day
Imagine arranging that with Network Rail today !

Actually that‘s not quite right —
Blackpool drew 2—2 with Pompey Xmas Day at Bloomers and the return league match (Sir Jimmy‘s debut) was on the 27 Dec (lost 3—0 !)

Spot on Wilf.I will say what others should be saying well done to the players for their draw and full marks to their fans for sticking by their team as well as travelling that distance on the day before Christmas Eve.
Amazing how no one talks about the excellent result they got but are quick to criticise the travelling fans who went doing a 600 mile trip just 2 days before Christmas.
Mind you that said we have one or two idiots on here who are always quick to criticise other teams fans when they probably don’t even attend Blackpool home games and just live behind a keyboard.
