Colby Bishop

No surprise Accy are back where they started after losing him and Dion Charles.

If we'd signed Bishop in the championship instead of tire-kicking around someone elses deal then he wouldn't have had the same goal return but we'd have had a big lad up top L1 striker to drop back down with. And not been pinning all hopes on ragging Madine to breaking point along the way.

Fully expected him to be on the scoresheet today. Glad he wasn't and we're keeping it simple again at the back with Big Marv.

I have to be honest here.

Madine did a job but he was never going on forever and we got the tail end of an unimpressive career.

I never understood the love in really, his goals record was poor, he gave away far to many free kicks, he got sent off for being this 'hard man' type character, almost a pantomime villain and rarely brought other players in to play despite his backing in/pushing/bullying style of play......and he couldn't run either.....
Good suntan, that's about it........bit of a poser really.
The manager is loyal to his players which I think he should be to a point, but sometimes loyalty breeds complacency and his and other managers loyalty to Madine cost the club 6k a week for a player who was declining with every game until his unfortunate injury. (obviously NC wasnt Madines manager for all his time here) At the time we were quite short in stature
so from a defence point of view he helped out.
Apart from that I saw very little to inspire me.
He was average at best. Contrast him with the strikers we now have.....a massive improvement. Yes, Rhodes is on loan but Lavery, Beesley, Kouassi and Joseph are all team players and I honestly would put each one of the ahead of him by a country mile.

That may not be popular with all, but it's a yes from me.

Pompey fans believe he is being used incorrectly by manager and being flogged as the one alone up front (from reading forum comments)

That's OK but Madine didn't pick the team and the club had two years in the championship to move on from him and didn't.

Staying up or worst case coming back down with Colby Bishop up front (other big lads up top on a budget are available) would have shown an attempt to not just stand still.

Thought he did OK linking up with the three behind him yesterday, they were quick to get forward first half. But he'd have been better working with Rhodes for us. More sturdy less bambi on ice than Beesley.

Beesley, whilst not the most skilled player at the club, is a grafter.
I'm not saying Bishop is any different but Beesley has scored 5 in 3 which is great form.
Rhodes is scoring too and Beesley is contributing to the team with work rate. He wins headers against every centre half he's up against and that just piles more pressure on defences.
Bambi on ice does him a huge disservice and I disagree with you on that.
Positivity is all around the club at the moment so I'd be concentrating on that rather than finding something to put someone down with.

After watching back some of the second half every time they got booked, particularly the guy who was booked twice, Bishop was in the background going mad. Came across as a bit of a tosser.

Must have been very mad to be in Marvs pocket.
I noticed after their red he's in the background stomping his feet. He also moaned to the ref every chance he got. Sometimes you need someone like that in your team, but on this occasion I think it worked agaist them as the ref just looked pissed off with him by the end of the game.

Bishop 10 goals and 2 assists this season.

Rhodes 10 goals and 3 assists this season.

Maybe there was a reason why people were spunking over Bishop when he was close to signing, seeing how many are spunking over Rhodes now.

Okay he might not be the crock we thought he was.... but he still didn't have the energy to climb out of Marvin's pocket.
Eleven-goal top-scorer Colby Bishop, who Marvin Ekpiteta and Matthew Pennington kept quiet during the Seasiders' 4-0 win at Fratton Park last Saturday, suffered an ankle injury in the first half of the Blues' midweek win at Burton Albion. It's set to rule the former Accrington front man out of Portsmouth's League One trip to Northampton on Saturday. Meanwhile, there's concerns Bishop could miss more games as the south-coast side await the results of a scan.

Looks like he could be a crock!!

It was so obvious this was going to happen. Our medical team spotted that ankle weakness a mile away. Doubt we'll see him again this season.
