Collins...Barnsley gaffer

Just watched the extended highlights on TT.
Both benches doing the usual handshakes etc at the final whistle.
NC goes towards Collins to shake hands, moody sod blanks him & walks on to the pitch.
Critchley's face is a picture, all very how bloody dare you 🤣
Extended highlights didn't show quite a few chances, particularly Lavery, the save from Dembele and Virtue, or the offside goal.

Made them look a bit better.

Definitely agree with that. Anyone who hadn't been to the game would have thought it very even from those highlights 🤬

I’ll have to watch bits of the entire game to see if I missed anything when attacking the South as it’s quite a long way away from the North.
My criticism of Critchley hasn’t gone. If we’d attacked teams from the off like that we may have got caught out the odd time, but overall I believe we would have things firmly in our hands. In the higher playoff positions at least. Don’t get me wrong I’m delighted we are still in with a shout & I think we’ll win at Reading, but my worry is just missing out because of other results. Shades of Walsall away around 1990 spring to mind.

If we weren't so dependent on the loans I would be so so optimistic for next season. But the reality is we are probably back to the drawing board in summer and will replace 4 experienced loans with young permanent signings with an eye on the future, or loans that aren't quite as good. Apter for Dembele seems a possibility, but if he slots in at reserve right back with Gabriel moving on I would feel very bitter.
Either way it was a great game and does provide some optimism for next season, hopefully not misplaced optimism 🤦

I walked past some Barnsley fans who said the score should have been 7 or 8. The fact it finished 3-2 was no reflection of our superiority over the 90+ minutes. They made 3 or 4 goal saving blocks, keeper made a great save or 2 and we failed to capitalise on some incredible openings. Barnsley fans aren't daft, that was a 3-2 stuffing, so their manager spouting rubbish is exactly that.

His shitty attitude has undoubtedly rubbed off on his weak willed players.
When the pressure's on our players have responded positively, whereas under his mardy arsed leadership, Barnsley have capitulated.
I was taught by my PE teachers - "it's OK to cry when you win, but NEVER when you lose".

How on Earth they’ve managed to get to where there are in the table is beyond me .

We absolutely caned them in that first half.

Men against boys .

I was told they had a terrible injury list, could barely put out a match day squad etc. I'm guessing they've got a few back since? That said the so called best teams have all looked average imo. We probably would have done the double over Pompey if it wasn't for the silly red card. Bolton were humbled at ours and got a 1-0 win from a speculative shot that was hit well and won it. Derby and Peterborough have looked decent but Oxford, Lincoln, Leyton Orient and Stevenage have been average.

Sod their bloody injury list. It's a 46 game season. Play it, take it on the chin or do one.

I'm pretty sure Rhodes, Coulson and Byers were loans with a view to permanents.

I was trying to work out why Critchley looked so shocked at the end - Collins will be out of a job this summer if Barnsley fail to go up.

When we failed to beat Walsall we had another bite at the cherry in the play offs.
This time if we miss out, that's it, season over☹️
Big difference.

Totally agree we should already be firmly established in the PO spots

If they play like they did in the last 20 and go direct to Cosgrove, I think they'll have too much for Northampton. Obviously nerves/pressure can make a big difference. I just hope the Cobblers noticed how poor their keeper was on crosses and also how static some of their defending was.

The board must have felt that things weren't right to the extent that they would have a better chance in the play offs wthout him. Maybe things blew up after saturday's game. He acted a bit of a dick at full time, maybe he carried on acting a dick and talked himself out of a job.

Apparently he was in that much of a hurry to board the team coach and leave Bloomfield Rd that he skittled over a bunch of autograph hunting Tyke Oompa Loompa's, leaving them distraught and shaken...

The Board felt that this was the final straw...

Martin Daveney has had a stint as caretaker before, we beat them in his first match I think.🤔 don’t trust my memory these days

I'm afraid this is bad news from a Blackpool viewpoint. With one point from their last five matches there must have been reason to hope Barnsley would botch it up on Saturday. Today's decision might just give them that reboot to get over the line for the play-offs.

I hope I'm wrong.
