Two men. Both the wrong side of 50. One attended a grammar school in Leicester followed by Clare College, Cambridge. The other attended Eton College followed by Balliol, Oxford.
One man is a holder of the Order of Merit. The other isn't.
The one who holds the OM wore a mask at COP 26 and made a suitably grave and impassioned speech, in which he said that the world has a "desperate hope" that we might still avoid disaster. His speech was rapturously received and given a standing ovation by the leader of the free world.
The man who studied at Balliol College, and who doesn't hold an OM was also at COP 26. He didn't wear a mask. He also made a speech, in which he described humanity as being "5-1 down at half time." That man's speech was received in stony silence.
The OM holder is 95 years of age and respected throughout the world for his environmental credentials.
The other man is Boris Johnson.
