He's a good squad/ utility player to have and will do a decent job in central midfield..right back or center half.
A left wing back he isnt.
I was hoping Critchley would have learned from his time here villa and QPR.
just put your best team out...a comfortable win but not the best team selection imo.

I agree with hhe above, he is a fine squad player, steady right back and could happily play right or left of a back three but to play him at left wing back is just wrong!
Far too negative imo

Why does Critch want to play players out of position, anyone with half a brain would have had Lyons in there.

Gerard Houllier always said you cannot judge those strange decisions that fans dislike until you know the full picture?

It could be Lyons still not fully fit? It could be that he wants to manage squad rotation for fitness, it could be that he felt CJ was important to stretch their defence (even if no end product yesterday) and that needs balance on the other wing of effectively a Connolly?

Personally I think Connolly would be the better option at RCB if you watched how often Pennington went forward as Connolly has more experience doing that. Lyons would always start for me, but we don’t know the full tactical picture.

Ultimately - we are top of the league and did it with comfort.

It just looked awkward on the left side with CC there. It stopped the natural flow forwards.

I was surprised to see Connolly at LWB against Hibs with Lyons on the bench and even more surprised yesterday. Connolly has never played on the left side for us as far as l can remember so l can only assume that Lyons must have a knock and Critch is punishing Thompson still for his rush of blood off the ball incident at Morecambe.

Only fly in Critch's team selection ointment for me on Saturday and the fact he only touched the ball 50 times spoke volumes about how ineffective he was in that position and that's a shame because I really like Connolly as a player.
