Getting them for 1st time tomorrow..anybody any experience of them ie putting them in, taking them out..hard? easy? Gave up?

Yep. Putting them in was easy but there seems to be a knack in getting them out. I spent ages one night scratching my eyeball only to find out the lens had dropped out while I was in the pub. I decided I didn't need them in the end.

It appears incredibly difficult at first to put them in and take them out but believe me with practice it becomes very easy. Persevere you will not be sorry.

Wore them for a long time when I was younger; in the days you had to clean them every night. The amazing thing was that, no matter how pissed you were, your contact lenses were always cleaned and in the pots next to your bed the next morning.

You also had to treat them for protein build up or your eye balls would swell up until you couldn’t see “Excuse me is this Barnard Castle?”.

Then disposables came in. Great stuff. “My eyes itch. Out they come and on go the glasses”.

But then the eyesight deteriorates and, although you can still see distances in lenses, you can’t read stuff. Bit crap; especially for fell walking when you’re lost.

So now I’m exclusively glasses. Which come on and off as required. Currently off. Which is why my nose is pressed to the screen of my iPhone.

That’s my experience anyway. 👍

I’ve never fancied them myself. A bit eye squeamish to be honest.
That said I only required glasses from age 46, so about 4 years ago and although I have a prescription pair I’m still well within the range of getting away with readers 👍
Glasses are fashionable these day’s anyway so what the hell. Unless you’re doing something totally impractical like swimming, and I rarely read when swimming 😆 so I’m glasses all the way.

I'm the same, the idea of putting stuff in my eyes makes me shudder. That said, I'm fine with reading, but losing sight over distance...So I need my glasses to be able to make out who the players are at the footy, which is a nightmare because my glasses frequently go skew whiff when we score. Thinking of getting them lasered in a couple of years when my prescriprion stabilises as I'm fairly new to glasses.

Like a few above, I tried them a while ago, but found that my vision wasn’t as sharp as with glasses & they can get itchy, especially if they start to get a bit dry, such as on a windy day.

Decided in the end they weren’t worth the expense & faff, and went back to glasses.

I’ve done them for years, no problem. Monthly ones with cleaning solution to disinfect (AO Sept Hydraglyde, or the Boots version which is exactly the same, made by same company but a lot cheaper). Daily disposables also very good, and feel a bit thinner.
I’m still careful when I put them in and take them out. You need to be rigorously clean. Clean hands. Use saline as well, if needed, but never tap water.
Don’t wear them for too long. Take them out early evening and switch to glasses. Never leave them in overnight.

Of course, you could have kept with your contact lenses and just used a a pair of £1 reading glasses for close up stuff (like I do 🙂 )...
I find that the best of both worlds - especially as glasses are not ideal for many sports I do (especially swimming🤪)

Nobby Stiles wore them in matches. I remember seeing on Match of the Day one came out and during a stoppage in the game he informed the ref who helped him looked for it.It was found🧐

In my youth, when I was young and daft as opposed to old and daft, I dabbled with full contact karate for a while (well until I got fed up being beaten up by teenagers). I used to train with a few boxers in a gym somewhere in Fleetwood and on one occasion caught a thumb in my eye that removed a contact lens. I can still see the pair of us kneeling down and then trying to pick it up in boxing gloves 😂 Like I said; young and daft.
