Contract offers

Gary Madine, Cameron Antwi and Nathan Shaw are all yet to accept or turn down their new contact offers.

Will the club have included a deadline with these offers, such as 30th June when their existing contacts expire, for a decision to be made and if so they will presumably become free agents at this point and the club can move on to other targets?

Free agents I would imagine, but that comes with a certain amount of risk.

I would imagine so. The club needs to recruit if they are not going to stay, and need to allow themselves time to do that.

The club could if they wished to, impose any deadline they like to accept/reject the contract offer. Equally they can withdraw the offer at any time. The obvious negotiating points for me with Madine and the club would be - a. the length and structure of the contract e.g Madine may want two years but the club might only be offering 1 +1 and b. The money on offer, rumours are that Madine was on circa £6k per week and I am sure the club won't be offering anything near that now. Also, there might be footballing reasons to consider as well, what will Madine's role in the team/squad be, how often will he play, will he be a first choice etc? Lots of factors in play when it comes to contract negotiations/ signing and not as straightforward as some might assume it is.

Antwi and Shaw would both attract a fee/compensation … not sure why they’re messing about, maybe just going to sort it when they come back for pre-season. Gary goals would be a free agent and would, you suspect, be fielding offers …

Gary madine will be looking for his last decent contract as he has turned 30 so understandable he gets it right for himself they two young lads both have got something about them maybe looking for a club where they get more game time.
