critch interview

It’s been very obvious for a long time, the players don’t believe in the system. It’s wholly down to him to get the best out of what I still believe is a talented squad at this level.

He’s clueless, evidenced by letting Dale go and bringing in Coulson. WTF!

He almost destroyed Jerry. He’s played Marv in a role he’s not suited to. We have the players to suit a back 4, very good full-backs and 3/4 good centre backs. Sadly, they don’t suit a 3 and we’ve seen it from very early on. This means that more creative players are not well utilised, such as CJ and Dale before he went. Midfield is equally ineffective.

It’s a clusterfuck of epic proportions, abject failure in a weak L1 and with a competitive playing budget. A shockingly bad appointment.

He devotes so much to stopping the opposition, rather than utilising the quality we have.

I don’t want to make it personal, but he has no radar. The way he celebrates / milks a win, but is often absent when things aren’t going well. He takes no responsibility, because if he did, he’d change the system.

Simon, for god sake do the right thing and then listen to proper football people when making the next appointment.

The problem is we've been constantly in 8th, but not close to 6th by points, never taking advantage of opportunities.

We got told plenty of points of play for but, each time we had a chance to gain ground by beating those above we fail and keep putting in stinker away performances.

Ultimately the goal has failed and we're not even in the mix, like all relegated sides were last season.

I said previously if 2024 is better than 2023 then even if we don't go up but are building and you can see the improvement, than you can understand him staying on.

There's no real improvement shown so far infact it's worse.

The pressure was on to win these games given how we'd previously failed and left a mountain to climb.

Best post for ages.

Might be because it's exactly as I see it on every point you've made as does, I assume, the vast majority of fans.

Back from Cheltenham.

Pick my son up from work, drive 85 miles in the pissing rain to watch a first half that would rank in the top 10 worst performances I have seen in 57 years of watching us.

Absolutely passive, inviting a limited team to run the game. It just looked like Critchley had said “ just work your way into the game lads, no risks”

I cannot justify spending time and money watching that dross until something changes in terms of attitude and desire.

To those of you who came much further than I from the Fylde Coast, respect is due. Hope you are nearly safe home.

An old fashioned desire to actively go after wins is absolutely what’s missing. The club has fallen under the spell of modern coach-a-Rama methods and passivity masquerading as control of the game.

In other words they need a rocket up their arses. And Coach Charlatan needs potting

Bang on post 👍

They hit it long because they aren't technically good enough players to show composure and pass it out when any sort of pressure is applied to them by the opposition.
We are playing a system that doesn't suit them. I love to watch Blackpool play good football but there are a few different ways of doing that, the one he has chosen for this squad doesn't work.
If he goes with the same tactics and formation against Peterborough on Saturday and the performance isn't there he has to go.
Sad thing is the results aren't that important now, playoffs aren't happening so let's at least see some performances with energy, courage and a gameplan that suits our players and troubles the opposition!!

Wow just listened to the interview and if l was a player I’d be having strong words with him! That’s the perfect example of throwing somebody well and truly under the bus and not accepting any blame whatsoever. When you’ve got 11 players on the pitch all underperforming and playing with absolutely no confidence whatsoever and as if the players have never played together before, then as a manager you’ve got to look at yourself and take some responsibility. That team selection last night looked good enough and strong enough to beat Cheltenham but it truly was a horror show and that, and not for the first time this season, is solely down to the responsibility of Critchley. How he picks the players up for Peterborough on Saturday will be interesting and l doubt he will because the tactics won’t change!

After some of the early horror shows I was convinced that, if nothing else, the players would be coached to be more comfortable on the ball and learn to beat the high press, but nobody has improved. Neither do we see good movement or speed of thought, to enable the ball to be worked quickly up the pitch. The players just aren't improving and many look like they are regressing. Given the clear strategy of buying young and cheap, I would be asking why the only player showing clear signs of improvement is the one at Tranmere.

It's all well and good someone having all the coaching badges that are available and he has to be congratulated for that, however, putting the theories into practice is a bit different and I, as I'm sure a lot of others on this board, have worked with well qualified people who have it all in their head, but cannot transfer it to the reality of everyday work. This appears to be his achilleas.

I would rather have a man with a spade who can dig a deep hole safely, than someone who can tell someone else the theory of how to dig the hole but is unable to do it themselves.

I must admit that I have supported Critchley all season, no one can argue against the home form but how dreadful has the away form been. I really cannot understand how he relentlessly sticks to the same formation in away games when it just does not work. I think most have been preying he would see the light & play 4 at the back for away games , then at least we would be picking 1 point up & sometimes all 3.
If he doesn’t change to a back 4 on Saturday after that woeful performance, then I am sorry , but I will join the Critchley Out campaign.

I agree with most of that.

It takes a lot for me to call for a sacking of a manager as I don't think it necessarily helps over the long term.

We need NC to change tactics away from home and against the more agricultural teams and we'd be gaining plenty of points away from home.

It's so frustrating.

Why wait till 70 to change things, subs should have been on at half time, you obviously cannot motivate or set up this team to do well, time to go.

I joined the campaign last night. Any chance of making the play offs evaporated last night and yes its still mathematically possible, but that performance from the manager to the players just epitomised everything that is wrong with our away form and performances. But looking forward to next season if things don’t change and it’s down to Sadler then ST sales will drop and could be significantly, if that doesn't wake Sadler up to smell the coffee l don’t know what will.

NC never accepts responsibility for poor performances & results. That is weak leadership & wouldn't be tolerated elsewhere.
He has earned his coaching badges at the various FA courses, but he hasn't taken his learning onto the pitch. The same applied to his time at Villa & QPR.
His blaming of the players only worsens matters & for me there's now no way forward for him.
It's highly doubtful that SS will sack NC, so he should do the right things - accept he needs to move on & then go before Saturday & take his two hapless coaches with him.

He’s a charlatan and is getting almost as annoying in his post match interviews as Nathan Jones. I’m guessing Stevie G has lost his number otherwise we’d all be celebrating

SG: Hello

NC: Oh, erm, hi Steve, Neil here

SG: Ya what? Neil? Neil who?

NC: You know, me, erm, Neil Critchley

SG: errrm, no, still not sure

NC: Erm, but we worked together, at Liverpool and then, erm, Aston Villa

SG: Oh that Neil! The one who used to put the cones out and handed out the bibs, yes, I vaguely remember you, what can I do for you?

NC: Well, erm, I did do a bit more than that Steve, I used to hand out the drinks bottles and collect the footballs into a big net at the end of a session.

SG: I don't remember that la, I just remember you as the one in the Gillet and you were a bit borin'

NC: I was wondering Steve, erm, things aren't going so well for me at Blackpool, the players won't listen to me and ignore me most of the time, erm, so I was wondering, Steve, erm, If you needed a coach out there, you know, erm, someone who knows exactly how to put the cones out and erm, the bibs, oh and erm, collect the balls and put them in the big net, I always liked that best.

SG: Blackpool? Did you go there? That prick Charlie Adam came from there, I made sure his life was hell when he was at Liverpool, thought he could be better than me (grumbles and says under his breath, "He was better than me and I hated him") A job eh? Well I've just taken on this Michael Appleton bloke to put the cones out and he's good at it, but, I do have a position of assistant to the assistant kit man if you want it?

NC: That would be great Steve thanks. I will be able to put my top top UEFA coaching qualifications to good use there.

SG: Are you a member of the Tufty club? That's the only badge you need here?

NC: Erm yes, I am, I have the elite Tufty badge, that furry little scamp.

SG: Start Monday Neil, get yer flight booked and report to the assistant to the assistant kit man at 8am sharp, I probably won't ever acknowledge you so good luck, oh, it's Mt Gerard, not Steve!

NC: I used to, erm, get you your coffee, that machine had all those lovely formations and tactics, I mean styles of coffee

SG: Yeah I remember, I kept asking you to mix them up so I could keep it interestin' but you always bought me the same thing every twatting time!

Brrrrrrrrrrr

NC: I think it's best to stick to the same thing, nothing can go wrong then........ Steve? Mt Gerrard? Are you still there? Hello? Hello?

Needs its own thread this Fella 🤗

I’m sorry but I really hate these TTV interviews

Why is he asking such an unimportant non-question that no fan actually wants an answer to about why Norburn was dropped?

Why isn’t he asking if the manager thinks he set the team up correctly tonight?

Why isn’t he asking why he states we weren’t performing well but didn’t change things until the 70th minute?

Why isn’t he asking why the changes were straight swaps and if he considered changing things around like putting another forward on next to Kouassi when we needed to get back in the game?

I’m sorry but it means Critchley never has to take any accountability at all

The thing is Critch said in his interview he knew what to expect.
It's not as if we haven't come up against that type of team and style of performance before with the same outcome.
So Neil why didn't you play a back 3 (I know a back 4 is simply impossible) of Pennington Eky & Casey and even put Connolly in at (I never thought I'd say that) at RB/WB. The midfield could have been stiffened up with a combination of Norburn/Virtue and even if you thought we were good enough before the match with your team selection, we clearly weren't, so why not make 4 changes at HT?

We haven't got very good fullbacks. We have one good fullback in Gabriel, one with potential who has not been used enough in Lyons, one who's best years are behind him and is always prone to a clanger in Husband and finally Thompson who has a mental 10 minutes out of every 90 and is now on loan in League 2.
We could probably go through the whole squad and if we gave an honest, unbiased assessment it is just about good enough to clinch 6th if we are lucky with injuries but it isn't that good and was never going to 'piss this league'.

I didn’t say the squad could piss the league.

Regarding full-backs, Gabriel and Lyons are both good players. Neither excels playing wing-back. Husband is the best defender at the club, but has not been playing so well recently. Who has!

At this level and above, all players can drop a clanger.
