I had money on him saying 'no easy games in this league', 'games coming thick and fast', 'we've just got to look after our own results' and 'the strikers weren't clinical enough' ... and of course 'don't blame me'!

And, with regard to any player making a steady return to fitness after a lengthy injury lay-off, there's the old chestnut:

"At the rate he's goin', give it another couple of weeks, an' I reckon he'll be ready for another try out on the grass ..."
