Critchley happy with performance

Most reasonable amateur footballers could have played in that game last night and played the passes and made the tackles, the only difference being is fitness over 90 mins. Insipid negative football and thats down to the manager.

After last nights disappointment I’ve treated myself to watching the game again this afternoon on TTV (talk about glutton for punishment).

On reflection, I’d say It was a tough test that last night and two decent teams cancelling each other out very well. I suspect both of us will be up the top end at the end of the season.

It was a decent game of football, decent chances at both ends. The end result definitely flatters them, but we were chasing the game.

Disappointing result for certain, especially as we were gaining a bit of momentum, but the results will come. As fans, whilst it’s frustrating, I think we need to have a bit more patience in games like that. The football certainly wasn’t negative and nor were the managers tactics… if anything I wonder if we over-committed at times.

I think inadvertently you have hit the nail on the head. The problem is we are only signing in the main very average players. We have sadly got used to having generally mediocre players. Anyone showing above average ability does not stay with us very long. I don't like to be critical of our players because I think they are doing their best. But they are at a certain level and it's way off Championship level; it's mid-table Division 1 level. Those saying it will all come good are deluding themselves. And while I'm commenting I've simply had enough of NC. His team selections and substitutions are often crazy. Last night was the last straw for me. Bringing off the only player creating chances when we are behind is inexcusable. But I guess we are stuck with him.
Yes he should really have taken Carey off and moved Dembele into midfield.
We all think we know best but probably we don’t 😂
Mind you, it’s not that difficult to identify who out of the two of them would have caused most damage to the opposition.
Especially as we were behind, so in my view he could have been bolder.

Then you’ve got a short memory…

We were regularly conceding stupid goals, particularly from set pieces and the AVFTT threads were abundant.

You could well be right, I just remember the debates over lack of investment from back then. When you consider Nathan "applauding king" Delfouneso was spearheading our attack and we were 2nd in the league after 6 games, with our best start to the season for nearly 60 years Ollie was once again working miracles.

Happy with creating 3 decent chances (the goal, Carey hitting the bar and Rhodes effort first half) at home all game. High standards indeed…
I have a problem with Critchley (and in another thread I've just said what a nasty piece of work Hoddle was to Beckham and so this might appear hypocritical) - he never talks about a game as everyone else sees it. Now either he is genuinely protecting his players or he has the strongest pair of rose tinted glasses in football!

He shouldn't be happy with that performance at all, maybe he wasn't, he's hardly likely to come out and say "Sorry Everyone, we were shite tonight, I got it totally wrong and Connelly and Carey played like useless fuckers!" is he?

It bothers me more that he thought that changing a winning side was a good idea, he could have started with the same team that won at Barnsley and were starting to look like they knew what they were doing. Too much emphasis on changing our side to counter theirs instead of letting them worry about us.
He explained that Kouassi wasn't fit enough to start again, but otherwise I agree with you.

If he'd said post match that we were shite he'd be criticised for demoralising the players, probably by the same people slagging him above.

It was terrible there’s no sugar coating it one of there players went clean through first half think it was Kane Wilson and put it wide and there was a couple more second half it could of been a lot worse

The more I read this thread, the angrier I get, what he should have said is, I’m sorry for our fans who expected better than this, I’m the manager and the book stops with me, we’ll work hard to make things better.

Buck, not book.

Yes it is the buck stops here a quote by President Truman accepting full responsibility( not like some of the present leaders) for his actions including dropping two atomic bombs on Japan.

It’s dissembling. He talks about things as a semi detached professor of football analytics, zero excitement or passion. I quite liked “Angry Critch” who made a rare appearance a few weeks ago but he’s back to normal now after defeats.

Yep… it wasn’t actually a bad game of football last night tbh. Very frustrating at times, but I do think you have to be prepared to be patient if teams come to stifle you.

With Rhodes in particular, we have a Striker who’s capable of a decent conversion rate and in them kind of games it can come down to one or two opportunities.

I do agree that we need to move the ball a bit quicker and be less static at times. As things stand we seem to struggle without a lump it forward option.
Personally I wouldn’t of changed the previous starting 11 unless he had to?
It wasn’t a bad game they just ended up being more dynamic in their breakaways than us, personally I don’t see what Carey brings to the table 🤷‍♂️ however every manager picks him so he must train well, I just think he doesn’t impose himself on the game enough, he’s more taking part than being a driving force.
I can still see signs of a team forming and I think they’re all still learning even Critchley.

To be fair there is a small group who are very vocal who didn’t like him, personally I was never bored and gutted when he went. But some seem to like the polar opposite a lot 😜. On this occasion I don’t mean you 😜
