Critchley "I couldn't do that"

How often do you see players and managers put statements out when they leave? Pretty much all of them do it - you see it when they leave the biggest clubs in the world to go join another one of the biggest clubs in the world. Why don't the giants of the football world have these apparent rules in place..

You're telling me Villa wouldn't allow their new assistant manager put a thank you out to Blackpool fans after poaching him? Absolutely bizarre if true, and very hard to believe.

Well it’s a bit different when it comes to trying to gag your new manager who’s expected to face the media on an almost daily basis or your new multi million pound signing / star player. There’s ultimately different expectations. But your new assistant manager brought in from the lower leagues - you probably don’t want him making too much noise. Instead you want him focusing on the job at hand. That’s why it’s VERY different.

I doubt most people outside of the clubs involved would give a rats arse what the new assistant manager of Aston Villa had to say. He’s not going to knock Pep and Co off the back pages FFS! Crtichley saying thanks to 12000 Blackpool fans is hardly going to upset the Villa applecart

That still doesn't make any sense, how much noise is your new assistant saying thanks to his old club actually going to make? I don't see how anything you mentioned contributes logically to the necessity for an NDA, especially when farewell messages occur all the time in football regardless of whether a player or manager is moving up, down or sideways.

There are plenty of examples of moves from the Championship to Prem where a farewell message wasn't an issue. There are even examples of farewell messages not being an issue at Villa specifically, Gerrard made one to Rangers when he left and went to Villa and one to Villa when he was sacked. I have to cast doubt on the idea that they suddenly started whipping NDA's out for Neil Critchley coming in as assistant from Blackpool.

The only way I can see it being remotely true is if it came from our end. The club might have wanted to control the narrative and told him to wait to put a statement out. He's the manager again now so it's pointless being arsed about it anymore, it just strikes me as them trying to appease the fans by making out he had no choice.

I wonder if the people on here who are critical of Critch going to Villa would turn down a job at a much bigger employer who had offered to quadruple their salary to come and join them.

Yes I said quadruple, so imagine you're an average guy on £40k per year and someone says I'll offer you £160k a year.

Before any of you reply let me say if you're even going to suggest you wouldn't leave your current employer you're a f@cking liar, everyone would go and everyone knows it.

Where he dropped a bollock was the way he left without as much as a goodbye to the fans who he had a good bond with, he kissed the badge more times than George Best used to kiss women.

In his interview he has admitted he got it wrong as it's something he's not experienced at doing, for me that apology is acceptable as all of us make mistakes from time to time (don't deny that either people) and the most important thing is we get this club back on track and Critch has shown in the past he can do that and do it with a style of football that is easy on the eye and a pleasure to watch.

Now back him and more importantly the team and shut the f@ck up moaning.

Spot on that Raging, we’d all move for more money and we’ve all made mistakes in our lives that we have regretted and l don’t mind confessing to that. His interview yesterday was more than good enough for me so time to move on and put last seasons shambles behind us. UTMP👍

Another example of poor communication and interviewer afraid to ask awkward questions. When Critchley said “ I couldn’t” on his TTV interview, I like many on here was expecting a follow up question such as “ Could you explain please Neil why you were unable to do that “

At least then hopefully you might an explanation which may or may not satisfy or give supporters a better understanding of what happened. Once again that one quote has sparked another line of speculation and theories which could have been sorted with a little more thought.

Communication between the owner and supporters has been discussed on another thread and I thought the TTV interview was a perfect opportunity for Sadler to begin that process but in my view he failed to take it. Ok, he comes across as calm, measured and wants the club to succeed etc but little or no mention of the supporters. He and Critchley could have done a real rallying cry to the fans, generate some passion and enthusiasm but that didn’t happen.

I really hope this communication issue is addressed quickly and I hope as a true Blackpool supporter for many years, that we can once again achieve something special starting next season.

Absolutely spot on, as others have said life’s too short. There was a speech by a chesterfield fan the other day that has really struck a chord with me, basically saying all these outside influences alongside managers and players etc don’t matter as much as the badge on our chest, I couldn’t be prouder to be a Blackpool fan and know we’re one of the most loyal and passionate sets of fans around. This really isn’t a time for division, we’ve gotta pull together to try and get out of this league as quickly as possible. We’re never boring and certainly never make it easy for ourselves but tangerine blood flowing through our veins makes us what we are and I for one could never fall out of love with our badge

Did Ollie say goodbye after getting the Palace job? Don't remember if he opened his beak to say a fond farewell. Seem to recall a rumour he hid in the back of a car whilst being driven from Squires Gate after taking his last training session.

Quite the profitable little gap year he's had make no mistake.

Post of the week! Spot on 👍

He should have thanked the fans end of . I feel very uncomfortable about his appointment and not because of his inability to say thanks . It feels like Appleton all over .
But why do you feel that way? he has been our most successful manager in the last decade, brought the fans together and bought some great players who were well developed under his coaching.

He only left 12 months ago, you don’t all of a sudden become a shit manager in that time. I just don’t get the train of thought, it feels like some people are jumping on his QPR record, or some voodoo ‘second time always fails‘ as though this appointment has any real parallels with Grayson or Appleton? - all feels like a deflection from the real reason in which they’re still hurt by how he left us and have dealt with it by being angry at him.

My main worry is the degree to which the support will be split and the lack of patience that might be shown . I don’t care what an UTMP poll has shown there are a large number who did not want him and do not want him, another bunch who will put up with him for now . For some it’s the best appointment possible and others are still in shock . I have my season ticket and will support my team as always , but if this master stroke doesn’t go to plan, and we go on a bad run it could turn ugly very quickly.
I wish him all the best, but can’t help thinking he will go the way of the other 2 term managers we have had .Hope I am wrong 🤞UTMP 🍊

My worry is also the split in the fan base, what made his last stint so special is that fact we were all behind Simon, Neil and the team. I think that positivity around the club accounts for a lot of our success, but you need a good manager to get the positivity brewing in the first place.

Let’s see what happens, I have a lot of faith in our supporters to put the past behind them and do everything possible to make next season a success. UTMP!
