I’m not sure I’ve said a great deal about promotion this season Clappers. I said right from the very outset that I felt this was a transitional season. I genuinely think our fans are oblivious to the scale of the task really.
But that’s football fans for you… Mostly impatient air Heads…!
I think the Club could do more on the communication front and particularly to give a more detailed understanding of where we are going and why it’s not a ‘click of the fingers’ kind of fix, but I also think people (fans) ought to be able to draw on a bit more understanding than focusing so intently on the immediacy of results and particularly results in certain supposedly ‘important’ games.
The only really important thing as things stand is making sure our performances are heading on the right direction and that we are making headway in bedding in a style of football that fits with the long term objectives of the club, offers the best platform to showcase our players (and thereby maximise their value) as well as ultimately giving the fans a brand of football that we can all enjoy.
Unfortunately, that long term goal comes at a price…And that’s why Critchley was chosen to deliver and not Dobbie… This isn’t about ‘doing the simple things’ and motivating 11 men to ‘just get a result’, it’s about transforming the Club, building a clear footballing identity and ensuring that we give ourselves the best possible chance of success when we do get promoted.
So for me… I was always grounded in what was to come and what it would take to get there. I’m under no illusions about the scale of the task… I think we have a pretty good squad and it’s possible / probable we might finish in a Play Off Spot this season… whether we get promoted after that is something of a lottery really…. Being totally honest I was always looking at next season as the one where I was looking toward promotion… So achieving it this season would be ahead of schedule for me…
