Critchley on Short List

He’s not on any of my lists

He’s wrecked our Club - to do it twice might feel like a mistake

He’s a greedy so n so with very few friends any more

Load of bollocks. He left for a bigger payday. Like 99% of the footballing world would.

We had no back-up plan, made two bad managerial appointments and didn't invest in the side properly.

Us blaming Critchley would be akin to i.e QPR blaming him for their mess.

Not arsed who the next manager is unless it's someone who comes with something to prove and can get us out of L1.

According to Mr Nixon.
He did a very good job first time round but he's burnt his bridges with the fans unfortunately.

He was given a long term contract, supposedly had a great connection with the fans but then suddenly jumped ship without a word to become an assistant.

Since then he has failed twice so he's hardly hot property.

I think we all know it wouldn't work out so let's not bother in the first place. I'd rather Dobbie was given a go than have NC back.

Not down yet

This would be another disaster imo. Struggled since he left us, would cause division in the fanbase, and going back to former managers hasn't worked twice now for us. It really wouldn't be anything like before - the players were let down by him, there'd be no rapport with the fans, he wouldn't have Bowler to rely on for creativity. It would just be another shit, lazy appointment imo. If we did go for him, that would be three out of five appointments the board have made that are ex-bfc managers. Cast your net a bit wider and put some effort in FFS.

This ‘struggled since leaving us’ rhetoric is nonsense. He was a joint no. 2 at Villa so his impact can hardly be judged - certainly not by anyone outside of that Villa bubble. His time at QPR didn’t go well, but the very highly rated Beale (who was offered the Wolves job and ended up at Rangers) started the drop off at that club, Critchley couldn’t steady the ship and the highly thought of Ainsworth has only seeming made it worse. Are those 3 managers all rubbish ?

The facts are Critchley is a talented coach and proven at working miracles in the exact set of circumstances he’ll potentially inherit at Blackpool. He knows the squad, coaches, board and facilities. He knows the budget and expectations. He’s proven to develop players from the pools we can shop in. We’ll struggle to find a better option.

Letting ego’s and pride get in the way of a solid appointment because some fans are acting like heartbroken teenage girls is ridiculous. I really hope he’s given consideration based on his ability and ability alone - as all managers should be

Some valid points there. But the bond he had with the club is broken. He was given time by the fans and the club first time round, as a rookie manager. And he rewarded us for the patience shown. So the club rewarded his success with a four year contract. Then shortly afterwards he left without saying a dickie bird for weeks (months even?). That could have been handled so much better.

I'm not saying he's become a bad manager overnight. But to expect him to repeat his previous success, especially given the very recent history, is totally unrealistic.

As for the heartbroken teenage girl reference... Would you take your former boyfriend back the moment he looked at you again? I think most of us would advise her not to.

As I have stated previously, I want the best manager available for the club , if that is Critchley , then so be it. The board will decide who they want & should not have to be concerned about whether the fans approve . Some fans are getting above their station , we as fans support the club in what ever division we are in & whoever the manager is.
After saying all of that I hope we , by some miracle, stay up , & if so Dobbie should be given a chance.

All these posters on here claiming loyalty means so much to them, as if they wouldn’t change jobs for double or triple the pay? No, that’s right the man needs a horses head in his bed for daring to offend these tinpot mafia wannabes 🙄😂

Critch has a wife and a kid, of course he did what he did, it’s totally natural to want to improve career prospects at a PL club. If he comes back to manage these players he already knows, and gets us out of L1, what is the problem?

He would not have been on a pittance at Blackpool. His, stated, reason for leaving was to challenge himself in the Premier League. But then, every Manager in the Championship wants to do that. I think the rationale of the League is such that you get to challenge yourself in the Prem if you can get your team promoted. He seemed a bit impatient to me...and disloyal.

So does sacking Appleton and Mcarthy make us disloyal to them? What manager do you think would show unwavering loyalty to us no matter what?

The fans should make their views known. And the board should listen, especially after three bad appointments. They had a successful team with a vibrant fan base. That was destroyed by two bad appointments. The style of Chritchleys team should also have been taken into account to aid any transition. I'm not saying the fans make the decision, but the board should listen when certain names being considered are toxic. Sadler, as a fan, should have known better. But these appointments seem to have Mansfords sweaty hands all over them.

I just remember us passing it around the back for five minutes, before we got pressed, then it went back to Maxwell who messed around for another couple of minutes, before he had to hurriedly hoof it upfield and we lost it. Oh, and he didn’t play Jerry much.
Yep, that was definitely his tactic. Waste time at the back, then hoof it towards Madine who would try to flick it on to a runner for a smash n grab goal. We need a manager capable of finding and bringing in some decent new players, esp in midfield where we've been truly awful for years.

We all enjoy having our say but fans are not great judges. Some of our best appts got poor initial reception at best. No one really wanted Holloway or Bob Stokoe. Some of our worst managers were initially fan favourites. Think Alan Ball, Colin Hendry or Nigel Worthington.
That said it Critchley came back would soon get toxic if results faltered.

Sorry did I dream that this dreadful team got promoted?

It never works second time around, I’d leave Critchley well alone.

I hope we’ve got someone in mind who is the right man for the job and that the fans will immediately take to.

The problem is, how can you trust him? We pay low wages and he may be tempted to walk again if the money was offered. Both Grayson and Appleton had very little rapport with the fans on their returns especially when performances and results went against us which left SS with no option but to sack them both. Reappointing Critchley does not guarantee success like last time and the relationship with a huge chunk of the fans will be severally tested right from the off. So the problem for me, is that I wouldn’t take the risk on him again and split the fan base when we all need to be united. Personally if we go down, I’d give Dobbie a season which would appeal to far more fans generally than Critch.

Loyalty to people who fail? That's a new one. We've done the Critchley thing before. For me he was a part of a project that meant he had Board support and they expected loyalty from him. It wasn't unwavering loyalty no matter what. He left when things were working.

If Critch came back Why not make him director of football, (goodbye one of the directors). Taking charge of all things football ,keep Dobbie as manager and Thompson as assistant. Sorta having the makings of another “Pools” boot room.
Just a thought the 3 of them could seriously develop the youth of the club and above. Thomson as the mouthpiece.

I’m not arsed that NC left without saying any goodbye. I’m more concerned that his record since leaving is very poor and has become a bit of a busted flush where opposition managers can tactically out wit him.

We had the same issue when McCarthy was appointed. Route one football with an appalling record coming to the end of his Cardiff reign.

As a previous poster stated above, the board need to stop being lazy by looking at previous managers and cast our net wider.

OK so it is one way then.

Spot on LA.

I'm not saying he should get the job but it would be ridiculous for him not to be considered.

I wasn't entertained by the football during his time with us but I'm not sure that matters.

He left us in a far better position than when he took over and kept us in the Championship very easily.

This is exactly what I was thinking and would make a lot of sense. Critchley either coming back as Head Coach with Dobbie as his assistant and Thommo lending his experience to give some continuity. Critchley has the credentials to become a Director of Football to oversee and direct the coaching through all levels of the club. This would give a clear succession plan with Dobbie ready to step up.

Yes; I've basically said I want a manager who will get us out of league one - should we go down - at the first time of asking. And that I'm really not bothered about people's personal hang-ups. The board need to start getting it right irrespective of what folk on a message board's opinion on the shortlist is.

Correct, you can’t have the tail wagging the dog so to speak .

2 wins in 18 and sacked by Port Vale.
Exactly, so he's available.

Promoted at Salisbury twice. Bristol Rovers twice. Kept Walsall up against the odds. Got Port Vale promoted. And then got thrown under the bus by the board by not being backed to keep them in the league.

Has some great concepts of training and has been a success everywhere he has been as a manager. Time for him to go to the next step. Perfect candidate, young and knows what a winning squad looks like.
