Kyle Joseph touched on his frustrating absence through injury as he looks to make an impact going forward.

The summer recruit has worked hard in the background to return to action and made an appearance from the bench against Bolton Wanderers. That chance to get back on the pitch was a good feeling for the 22-year-old and it is something he now wants to build on.

"It's been frustrating since I signed with not really playing," Joseph said.

"It's been a long 14 weeks now since being involved but it's good to be back in now, back with the lads in training and being back involved again. That's the life of a footballer, you've got to suck it up sometimes, injuries happen in football, they're quite common now.

"It's about being resilient and strong through it and getting on with it. At first I didn't think it was that bad when I did it but when I went for the scan it was a lot worse than I first thought.

"I was just gutted to be honest. I came on against Derby on the Tuesday and then got injured on the Thursday. I gave myself a week to feel sorry for myself and then after that it was to get over it, get working hard again because I knew there would be a return date for me.

"I was counting down the weeks but throughout the rehab it did go quite quickly for me. It was about building up making sure I'm strong and in a good space. I'm in a good space now, I'm confident so I'm looking forward to cracking on."

The squad as a whole have welcomed Joseph into the fold despite the forward not being able to play for the majority of the season so far. That welcoming environment is something Joseph believes has positively impacted his recovery, but he is keen to now make an impression on the field.

"It's important to keep checking in with the lads and keep involved," Joseph added.

"That's the hard part of it because you're doing different stuff to the lads when they're playing and you're doing rehab, but I think it's important to stay a part of it. They're a top group, it's the best group I've been with.

"They've made me feel really settled since I came in. Obviously I came in injured so it was always going to be difficult to start with but they've been top with me.

"Football is one of them, I could score a hat-trick but it could take a few weeks to get back up to speed.

"I'll never leave the pitch thinking I could have done a little bit more. It could take a while, it could click instantly, it's just good to wait and see.

"I feel so much more confident when I'm back home, being around my family and I'm very settled. The last two years I've not had that, you don't realise until that this takes a toll on you when you're away. It can be tough but I love being back home and that is a really positive factor for me here.

"And I'm with a good group here. It's such a strong squad on paper, we have a good balance of experience and youth, there's lads who have played in this league and the league above. We have to believe we're capable of being at the top of this league."
