Cycling

Anyone else like cycling on these sunny days. It is my type of cycling weather, admittedly mainly in coastal areas where the temperatures are usually moderated. I’ve been doing 20-30 miles a day since Sunday, which is enough for me, mainly on traffic free or very quiet routes. Hopefully will get a few more rides in before the weather breaks.

Genuine question for you push rodders, are you required to have lights on your bike if riding whilst it’s dark? I legally am supposed to pass 1.5 metres away from a bloke I see every morning at 5.30 but he’s always in black and no lights on his bike.

Some have built in knob heads in balaclavas with no road sence😡

As a car driver I've no time for those knob heads who never stop at red lights or go the wrong way down one way streets or switch from road to pavement or dress in black with no lights.

As a cyclist I love the new cycle path from St Annes. No worries about cars or pedestrians. I do it most mornings into Blackpool.

I was driving down Clifton Drive towards Blackpool on Thursday and there was some nob head cyclist taking great delight in cycling in the middle of the road and causing a massive tailback, despite the completely empty cycle pavement to his left!

Thankfully, most cyclists do the right thing. We're pretty lucky to have a decent cycling infrastructure on the Fylde Coast with the prom.

Me and Mrs Ross did the Preston Guild Wheel today. 22 mile circular loop, 95% of which is off the road. A quite nice ride and fortunately it wasn’t within site of nob end, every cloud.😉

Cyclists are nothing but a bloody nuisance. One way streets, red lights, you name it and they ignore it. Also that ride the lights shite should be scrapped as it achieves f*ck all.

Cyclists should have number plates and be held to account like other road users.

Simples really.

Loads of Wonga for the Treasury 👍

I'm convinced that a good percentage of cyclists in Blackpool (especially those around Strange Park and Central Dr) are riding bikes that are stolen.

I don’t bother cycling anymore… I find it far too dangerous.

Motorists these days are extremely aggressive and don’t seem to care about safety of other road users at all. Many wouldn’t think twice about knocking a cyclist off their bike just to prove a point.

They drive far too close to cyclists when overtaking, lack awareness of cyclists when on roundabouts or turning into junctions, drive at excessive speeds in built up areas, fail to stop at red lights, come round bends on the opposite side of the road… I doubt as many as 5% actually know the Highway Code and even less would come close to passing a driving test….

If they took all the stolen bikes off the vermin that ride them in Blackpool, it would solve a lot of problems.

Well there’s plenty driving around in stolen cars too, even more who have no tax or insurance, dodgy MOT’s etc… That’s before we even start on the old farts who drive round on a different planet…

It’s complete mayhem out there….

I can't see any reason whatsover why cyclists shouldn't pay road tax. They use them so why are they exempt.

Nothing like a generalisation is there, like all you motorists getting pissed up and driving through bus queues.

Have to disagree mate, I'm out at least 3 days a week with a cycle club and most motorist are fine, giving us plenty of space and being quite patient on narrow lanes untill we find a place to pull in and allow overtaking.
Obviously there are complete cock end motorist but there are also cock end cyclists out there.

I’m not particularly interested in other cyclists to be honest. I’m not responsible for them and don’t expect to pay a price for their behaviour…

My concern is purely for my own safety and my personal experience is that there are far too many dangerous drivers on the roads these days to make it safe.

I’m glad you feel safe enough to cycle.. 👍

They are not exempt because 'Road Tax' doesn't exist. It was abolished in the mid 1930's.
All road users now pay VED - Vehicle Excise Duty - which is based on the emissions their mode of transport emits.
Big diesel & petrol trucks pay in excess of £1k per year, while low polluting vehicles like cycles & electric vehicles pay nothing.
Low polluting vehicle users contribute to road maintenance via general taxation much the same as everyone else
Does that clarify things for you?

Having recently spent seven weeks back in the UK I can honestly say that the general level of driving has got worse, whilst I was back I cycled used a moped and drove vans so got a good feel for the terrible skill level, bad decision making and hesitancy that UK drivers seems to now possess🤦‍♂️
